Re: YYZ RJ landing Accident
43% N1 is flight idle, ground idle is about 39%, based on the final seconds I can surmise the FO went to flight idle because of the increased performance, the indicated airspeed remained more or less constant despite being at flight idle. Combine that with the increased rate of descent and you can ...

Re: YYZ RJ landing Accident
My goodness, reading that report was tough. I can’t remember exactly what the flight idle N1 is on the 900, but usually I would have had 55-60% N1 during a normal approach, so coming in to a nice long runway with gusty conditions at or near flight idle (43%N1) at 150 AGL with a 1* nose up attitude o...

Re: YYZ RJ landing Accident
I'm curious, are all RJ's no autothrottle landings? I thought I read that somewhere here. I always preferred the 37 (I'm assuming other Boeing products are the same) with the backdriven throttles where you could 'help out' the levers by nudging them forward to arrest a last minute excessive sink ra...

cross posted from the salary sub-forum I've heard its something like this... My best friend’s sister’s boyfriend’s brother’s girlfriend heard from this guy who knows this kid who said that it's 4 on 4 off, salaried, FO pay is 32K + per diems, bond is 2 years at 36K flying about 400 hours a year with upgrades possible.

Re: IATRA questions
Recently wrote the IATRA and passed with a good mark, most of the questions and references listed above are still VERY relevant. Aerocourse content is helpful. Here are some things that I can remember. Worth what you paid for it: 1) You have a CPL and are type rated on a two pilot aeroplane, what ar...

Re: Aviation Document Booklet - Expiration
Hello there AvCanada, I recently had to deal with this and thought my experiences might help others that can be caught by this! Unfortunately I fell into the 5 year expiry trap (so used to just doing my medical each year which happens in May), my book expired on April 1st, I found this out on the ni...

Re: Harbour Air FO qualifications?
First of all congratulations on your CPL progress, it is one of the first few steps to getting into this industry and definitely an exciting time. You seem to have the right attitude, but remember you had an interview for a dock position. I would not let the lure of a right seat spot distract you fr...

Heard another rumour recently about this outfit. Really seems ridiculous but you never know...
Pilots are taking another paycut so that the company can afford to buy some Metros for the fleet.
Discuss/Confirm/Deny?

Re: Orca Airways
I'm quite suprised to be seeing things turn so sour for this operation. Especially after growing consistently from such a small outfit to one that has 15+ aircraft. Anyone have any info as to why they have lost these routes?

Hey everyone, Instead of making a new thread I figured I would just add this here. Does anyone on the inside/in-the-know know anything more about their latest job posting for an Operations Manager? Is DC moving on somewhere else? Feel free to post or PM as you see necessary. Related ad http://www.av...

http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/british-columbia/story/2011/10/27/bc-richmond-plane-crash.html Just at work and people were heading outside to take a look. Re: Vancouver VTA procedures
Heres is some input from my experiences, hope it helps! 1) I would say it mostly depends on the time of day and traffic in the vicinity as well as the amount of staff available at the control centre. 2) I would generally take a look at the VTA routes and compare them to your intended route and possi...

Very cool videos, thanks for sharing.
Does anyone know what is involved with the calibration process and how it works? I tried googling but not much explanation there.
This was a cool read regarding how it was done back in the day

Re: Downwind to base to final
If you plan on maintaining a constant descent rate and attitude to your flare point and you want to fare so as to be at two feet above the runway at the completion of the flare, how do you judge two feet above the runway by looking at the far end of the runway? I believe this was directed at me, so...

Re: Downwind to base to final
For what it is worth, and by no means am I suggesting that this is the correct method for everyone, this is how I was taught. Flying downwind was never done with flaps in a 172 (a twin-engine Seneca however yes the flaps would be at 10*, but that is a whole other ball game) but rather a power settin...
