Re: Headset recommendations
I just went through the headset shopping process and I agree with the try it first suggestions. They all fit, feel and sound quite different. In the end I stayed with my Telex 50D but miss some of the connectivity features the others had to offer. A relatively unknown product out there is the AKG AV...

Re: Need Info about Thompson Manitoba
+1 for JBI, I think that was a good and fair description of Thompson. We have lived here for many years and for the most part our children were raised here. They are adults now, my wife and I still live and work here as well as two of our children and none of us work for the mine. Life is what you m...

Re: Question for Wasaya Guys
Im not sure the Basler stacks up that well against the ATR 42 for strip to strip work. The 42 would be an honest 11,000 lbs to most places they fly for similar or less up front costs with the added benefit of going higher, faster and less burn. I don't know much about the Basler though.

Re: NDB's WHY??
I grew up old school, transitioned to GPS and now have dual FMS. I still use the NDB all the time for situational awareness, heading correction in NDA and just general location to an airport. We might reach that RNAV goal of 100% coverage but until then leave that NDB intact.

Re: Info for southern pilots flying in the North
That is a well written and informative piece. I grew up with CARS stations and what you outlined is second nature however I've listened to many of the radio calls and offered advice to new guys, you nailed it. The CARS program is a very underrated and largely unknown program to the majority of the c...

I think that one pic is Elk Island rather than North Knife, the pic I posted is North Knife and as far as I know the only time a Hawker (AMO) landed there. The cold weather starts are incredible, I remember one complaint in YBK that we we set off the terminal building smoke detectors. Love it.

Re: parents of common law..to employee
Any flight benefits I've had and have (not Westjet), do not include in-laws. I'd be surprised if they do and I'm sure there is a company brochure or website for employees that your sons common law can access and answer your exact question.

Re: Coping with the wind shear
I'm not sure why radio procedures became so prevalent in this post as that doesn't seem to be the issue. Crosswind and the gust factor are the issue. The gust factor is the biggest concern (not the only) when crosswinds are involved, you may have a 15kt crosswind component but there is a big differe...

Re: Would you want your kids to become Pilots?
Yes I would, as a matter of fact my 17 year old son has completed high school and will be starting PPL training in the spring. He has made the choice on his own and I support him although I would support many choices he could have made. I'm fortunate to fly for a good company, make a good living, ha...

I enjoyed the show as well, more than I thought I would. It enhanced my viewing pleasure when Adam Beech got punched right off hop.

I don't know, I flew on a Bearskin Metro last year and the flight was alright. I was expecting a terrible experience from hearsay but other than the cramped quarters it was a positive experience.

I'm a huge advocate of checklists. Flow check to get going and then checklist to confirm everything was done prior to phase of flight. Not just reading the list but reading and confirming each item is as required. Anything else just sets you up for failure.

I like the I/O, if you're thinking used I'd suggest shopping the states (lot's of boats in the Minneapolis area), you could save a ton of money. I have an 18' I/O bow rider with a 3.0L Merc, love the boat but find the engine on the small side when pulling skiers or wake boards and the like. If money...

I think moving as much as possible of that stuff off 6.7 is a good thing. Radio congestion is bad enough at times with just position reports.
