Re: Research Study - Free Online Pilot Safety Training
There are a few research questions in the study, mostly associated with distributed versus massed practice. Distributed practice means spacing training out over time (such as 5 minutes a day for 10 days) while massed practice refers to training all at once (50 minutes in one sitting). A few of the s...

Re: Research Study - Free Online Pilot Safety Training
Firstly, thank you very much for investing your time and expertise in the study! The more people who participate, the stronger the conclusions I will be able to draw about the effectiveness of computer-based safety training. The survey tool is a standardized instrument, and because of that you are 1...

Research Study - Free Online Pilot Safety Training
I am launching a research study that will assess the impact of electronic pilot safety training that is organized into 5-7 minute ‘snap-courses’. I am seeking help recruiting participants for the study and ask that you would consider encouraging your colleagues to participate. There is no cost to pa...

Re: Pilot Decision Making - Real World Examples?
I have comm/multi/IFR fixed- and rotary-wing licenses (TC & FAA), but I spend far more time doing research than in the air - sadly. I agree that the safety categories overlap quite a bit (situation awareness, decision making, workload management, communication, etc). I expect most accidents/incident...

Pilot Decision Making - Real World Examples?
Hi Everyone, I am writing a pilot decision making course for my m-Safety app and am looking for some real-world examples to help make the material more tangible. According to the FAA, 52% of fatal GA pilot error accidents are associated with DM. However, research suggests that DM training can improv...

Re: The viability of CRM
Yes, TEM is considered the next generation (came into the industry about 2004/2005) compared to CRM which began in 1979. Progressive airlines have been using TEM for awhile now, but it hasn't been applied much in ab initio/GA. It's great to hear your feedback on this approach and to know that it is ...

Re: Looking for input from University Aviation grads
I am a professor in Western's program. I am happy to chat with you about the strengths and weaknesses of the university approach. Certainly, it's not for everyone (it takes longer and is more expensive than other options). However, it also opens up a world of opportunities (law school, MBA, etc.) an...

Re: The viability of CRM
Pilots having a bad attitude towards CRM isn't new - pilots have been referring to CRM as "charm school" and rejecting it entirely since it was introduced in the early 80's. However, I agree with the previous posters, that it doesn’t necessarily reflect CRM as a whole (perhaps it’s more indicative o...

Hangar Talk Survey - Enter for a chance to win $500
Hi All, I am a professor and aviation researcher within the Commercial Aviation Management program at Western and was hoping for some help with a research project I am working on in partnership with Seneca College. I have developed a pilot survey and am hoping to reach a lot of pilots from different...
