Re: WJ Offer

There are a lot of day turns out of yul in Winter and Summer. Less during Spring and Fall. So, yes you can get a lot of these. Some of my months are 100% day turns. I don't know about the other bases. The socialize bidding system is not perfect but it beats the seniority one in term of fairness. Wha...

Re: WJ Offer

I like the socialize bidding system. Of course someone very senior won't like it that much since he will be on the same foot than a junior guy. However what really sucks is the rsv system that put the last 20% on a all reserve schedule. Hopefully that is going to change on next contract. I am allowe...

Re: Upgrade times due to no Mandatory retirement age

As bigq says there is push for rsv rules to change in the new contract. The current one expires in December however god only knows how long before the new one is signed.

I started to fly at 35.
25 years later, I think it was worth it.

The start was not a walk in the park though ;)

Re: How to become IFR proficient?

The only time you would be expected to turn now is if atc tells you something like turn now to a specific heading. Never accept an instruction if you are not ready. Just ask the examiner/atc to standby while you get ready, pick up your pen, finish your coffee...etc. The examiner is a passenger, a pa...

Re: WJ Offer

At this time, it is impossible to know what upgrade time will be in 5 years. Also, the bidding system might change.
However, for a young pilot, AC seems to me a more stable career.

Re: AR program Did I read that right?

Anybody have a copy of the arbitration decision? Thx. Arbitrator made it clear that status quo will not prevail. FWIW - I think you guys are headed for a Jazz AR65 type arrangement (you may want to take a look at that LOU). It isn’t great. But perhaps that was by design. Could you please post the J...

Re: International Student and future career.

Maybe if you have a crystal ball you can predict what the market will be in 3 years. Personally I will not bother with dispatch licence or other training. Focus on what you want to do. Instructor rating etc... You want to fly, you don't want to dispatch or do other things. As a foreigner you will no...

Re: WJ Hiring

AR jockeys are headed out the door when they lose arbitration in August. That makes 200+ eligible for manditory retirement in the next 2 years. Not everyone retires at 65 as well. Always a reactive solution rather than proactive. How can you be so sure that they are going to lose the arbitration? W...

Re: WJ Hiring

A job posting just went out. How many are they hiring and for how long? 16 FO vacancies for Sept bid, to be filled from Encore flow. It has been mentioned they will plan to hire the following month too, so some OTS is expected. These aren’t to replace FOs upgrading, they are due to FOs leaving ‘nat...

I can see the 170 to the being a problem when you fly a ferry for instance. VREF could as low as 135 kt.

Victoria from Cun is about 6 hours.
So this plane was loaded with fuel.
So unless there were few pax, it certainly couldn't achieve this rate of climb.

Re: WestJet to Integrate Flair soon?

The FOM says to advance to full thrust initially.
Then, you adjust it.
So it is whatever you think works.

In the FOM also the PM is supposed to adjust the thrust.
In the FTCM the PF is supposed to do it.

There are a few things that are done online that doesn't match the FTCM.

Re: Remove AR, reduce upgrade time?

LCR Long call reserve. The company must give you a minimum of 14hrs notification. However report time can fall out of your RAP. It means that they can't call you but they will put the pairing on you schedule and you are expected to check and acknowledge. Also during a 5 day block if you get called a...
