Re: SWOOP - A New Hires Future
For informational purposes, on the last WestJet system-wide bid, which Swoop pilots were eligible to bid on, 50- of the 58 current Swoop pilots bid to go back to WestJet. And the company only awarded 3 WestJet openings to Swoop pilots, all of whom were very senior pilots within the combined WJ / Swo...

WJ Captain post
At the start of the week, our company Yammer was set abuzz by an incredible post by one of our YYZ Captains explaining the pilot side of the contract situation in very passionate terms. I can't recall anything there having received as many likes or generated as much feedback as what he said did - an...

Re: WestJet Mainline/Encore Hiring pool
Hi DaveP - A couple questions based on stuff you just said: 1. Was the flow from Encore for the WestJet Jan 12th class 25% or 50%? 2. Is it for sure that you'll be flowing 50% over from May? 3. How many pilots is WestJet planning on hiring this year? I've heard between 50-100 from some of my friends...

Re: Encore's Pay and Work Conditions
I have hesitated on applying because of the pay situation. I have a fair paying job in the Atlantic provinces, which is an affordable place to live and life is ok. However progression will be limited and I have accepted the fact I will have to move out west or to Ontario to further my career. As wor...

Re: East Coast Airways
Was thru YHZ recently, the East Coast Airways plane, which was parked just down the ramp from the Provincial hangar (near where the medevac flights were) is now gone. I heard from some ramp contacts it went back to Alberta. I think this means that East Coast Airways is now officially dead. Sad news....

Re: Moncton Flight College has gone into receivership
That is a real shame. I did my training at MFC, and received some top notch instruction. Although I have been gone from there for a couple years, I'll always treasure the time I spent there, plus the friends and contacts I made. I hope it works out, and they can get reorganized, from making a few ph...

Re: So you want to be a flying instructor
Most of us get into this profession because we want to be professional pilots. We do not want to become flying instructors. When I was at MFC, I remember one of my first instructors was burnt out like a piece of black toast from simply too many years of doing it. There were no jobs in the industry, ...

I'm really looking forward to it. I hope it stays interesting, like the Deadliest Catch. Some other reality TV shows were interesting the first season, but the second year and beyond, it just wasn't as good.schleprock wrote:Season II starts Jan 12th at 8:00pm EST on History.

I think you'll do well with a Garmin 430. It is one of the most technically advanced GPS' I have ever worked with. It has a multitude of capabilities that you will enjoy learning, that make your flying so much easier.

Re: The Cost Of Learning to Fly
To me, the cost of learning to fly was being stuck in something I did not enjoy. Once I realized that, it was extra motivation to make money to learn to fly. A long hard road even to become a Commercial pilot and fly cargo, but a road I am glad I have taken.
Good luck with your choice.

Re: East Coast Airways
So has it been confirmed they have ceased operations or does the evidence indicate that they may have? Not sure if it has been confirmed, but they certainly aren't flying out of YHZ. Curious if any East Coast Air pilots can clarify this. The guy we used to call EDITED at PE Air is at East Coast Air...

Thanks for the help. Someone told me that I might need to get a hold of TC and let them know things like.... Type of A/C, Reg, time period and what type of training was being done prior to starting. Has anyone ever heard of this? The reporting requirements for freelance instructors is explicitly co...

Re: which program should itake to be an airline pilot?
As some have said here already, there is no one "precise" path towards becoming an airline pilot. I started a few years ago at Moncton Flight College. MFC gave me a great foundation to my career, and I have made some lifelong friends. Moncton also hosts a lot of international students, mostly from C...
