Re: 50 hours and no solo
Hi Guys, I have 50 hours in total and no solo. The instructors keep saying i am not ready. What you guys think ?. Is it a good idea to move to different school ?. Do flight schools keep students from going solo ?. Thanks, Pewdipie As a former Chief Flight Instructor this is unacceptable. Sounds lik...

Re: How is This School Doing
This is purely anecdotal but I cancelled more in Alberta than in the Lower Mainland during my training for winds, temperatures, and thunderstorms. Despite the low ceilings, the weather seemed to be more stable so we usually were able to get something done.

Re: WestJet Mainline/Encore Hiring pool
Couple of Questions. Anyone out there been successful on their 3rd try at Westjet? I just got my second, "please reapply in a year" email for DEC at Encore. Does anyone know if this is for all pilot positions, or can I apply for FO on the 737 and/or the Q? I had less than a week to prepare from appl...

Re: Class I Instructors rating
Hate to rise this thread from the dead, but anyone have any tips from any class1 rides lately? Did it 7 years ago or so. It was easier than the Class II ride in which I was put through the ringer (2 hour presentation and 2.5 in the air). I had to teach Exercise 1 - 16 and demonstrate almost every o...

Re: Fast Air. Be20
I worked for them for about a year and a half. No bond at that time. I enjoyed every minute of it, but I stayed away from the medevac side of things where I heard things were not as good. Got upgraded without a pay raise then six months later I got a raise for the upgrade with backpay starting from ...

Re: 1900D question.
I experienced it. Pax came up with a concern so I pull over to have the FO check it out. No smell so it obviously was just mist. Decided that in the interest of customer service to have mx look at it. We did a run up and turned up the heat and it disappeared. It was hot and humid with light rain.

Re: medical cat 1 with glaucoma ?
Not sure if it would be the same here but my uncle developed Glaucoma in the British Army Air Corps as an attack helicopter pilot. He was limited to 2 crew only and flew till his retirement as a Col. He had probably a 30 year career.

Re: Ear Infection & Perforated Eardrum
Doc is recommending another week. If it was perforated oddly enough I would be fit to fly according to the doc. Luckily this employer has short term disability. I once was grounded for over a month a few years back for another issue without short term benefits. I was off long enough to collect $7 fr...

Ear Infection & Perforated Eardrum
Anyone have experience dealing with one? How long did you have to abstain from flying? My doctor recommended around 2 weeks. I've been on antibiotics for almost a week and I've had no change and still can't clear my ear with the valsalva. Sucks to be off work for so long. How about a perforated eard...

I also found a video that did not seem to match the warning about "sideshow bob." http://www.trailpeak.com/trail-Side-Sho ... ry-AB-3355 The lycra wearing XC death sausages think Sideshow is crazy. Its not that hard. The last video I posted is Sideshow and Bowmont park List of legal trails in the a...

Re: Anyone Interested in Mountain Biking in Calgary?
Are you taking about Water Tower? I hit Prairie View/Jewel pass I K-Country last week scenic. Prospector in Exshaw is my favourite so far for technical rides. When I am on call, I usually hit up Sideshow Bob at Bowmont Park as its so close to home. I try to ride 3 times a week at least, but sometime...

Anyone Interested in Mountain Biking in Calgary?
Charter flying takes a toll on your fitness, so I got back into Mountain Biking this year after a 7 year hiatus. I stopped riding after my first job due to lack of money, getting married to my beautiful wife, and having kids. Now that things are better financially and my "in" with Santa Cruz Bicycle...

Re: Mountain Flying, and Flight Training
Never go down a valley that requires more that 30 degrees of bank to turn around in. Unless you work in the mountains, there is no need to go into tight valley's or use steep turns. Avoid going past the point where you can't dive while turning around, AKA the point of no return. There is no need to ...

Re: Freelance instruction hookup website?
How about setting up a private board for Instructors. This sounds like a good idea. Do they not have something like this in the States? As for the just website idea. I think every freelance instructor should be allowed to advertise their services with the ability for customers to rate and write a r...

Re: Clarification on flight test failures
That's a pretty broad and unfair blanket statement. Take the following case which I personally witnessed. A certain flight instructor has recommended a student for flight test. Said student was a good, competent pilot and her instructor wasn't at all concerned about whether or not she'd pass despit...

Re: Flying Different Types of Aircraft
I'm going to sum up my opinion on this subject this way: if I had a choice of being a passenger of a pilot who has 10,000 hours TT and 100 types in his logbook, or a pilot with the same 10,000 TT who has dedicated his career to flying just one or two types, I would have to say I would pick the latt...
