The only Transport Canada approved maintenance type training is offered by Bell Helicopter. http://www.tc.gc.ca/en/services/aviation/licensing-aircraft-maintenance-engineers/approved-training-organizations/current-type-course-approvals.html#toc_8 You can view the availability of the courses they off...

No one will be expecting you to wear a suit, tie and dress shoes. Most would find that over the top. A good clean pair of pants (no holes), a short sleeved collared shirt and clean shoes will be just fine.

Re: 100 hour inspections

Legally you require an annual inspection by the end of the 13th month from the month of the previous inspection. I don't think the statement above is actually correct. CAR 625.86(2)(a) says this... "(a) As applicable to the type of aircraft, at intervals not to expire later than the last day of the...

Re: can foreigner get AME M license in canada?

The best thing for you to do is to contact your local Transport Canada (TCCA) office, make an appointment, go down there with whatever documentation you have on your training, experience and current licensing and discuss with them what they require. If you're not in country, it will be difficult to ...

Re: Changes to license

TC could save themselves a lot of time, energy and money if they delegated some of the non critical functions they presently are involved in to industry professionals. Much how they do this with Ministers Delegates (MD-M). I could see this working really well with AMO /AO approvals, maintenance sche...

Re: Aircraft Maintenance course at 30 yrs old?

There are a lot of options as far as companies to work for once you have your basic training under your belt. Not all of them require that you work in -30 degree weather outside when it's a blizzard. Companies that have engine overhaul, component overhaul or avionics repair shops require specialized...

Re: Making new windows for a 172

To "make" a part per CAR 571.06 is actually quite difficult. It states: (5) The person certifying a repair or the incorporation of a modification which includes the making and installing of a part must ensure that the following standards of airworthiness have been complied with: (a) except as provid...

Re: Aircraft Maintenance course at 30 yrs old?

No problem. When I took my AME training back in '96, a good 10 or so were between 30 - 50 (yes, there were 2 guys pushing 50!). The trouble with a lot of apprentices these days is lack of maturity and work ethic. If you've had a good 10 years or so in the work force, you've got a leg up on a lot of ...

I can't recall seeing any avionics tech spray a cannon plug with WD 40 but lets hear from some who do this for a living. I have been an AME for 18 years and have never used WD40 for electrical contact cleaner or even on aircraft at all. Ground support equipment lubrication yes, but never for aircra...

Yes, we have done that before but are trying to stay away from doing that though. As an OEM service center, it looks a bit amateurish when you don't have the manuals to do simple things like an oil filter change or basic inspection items.

Re: OEMS Limiting Access to Maintenance Publications

Honeywell does not give a shit about Canada. The next line they'll feed you is that they are export controlled and you're s.o.l. I would go to the aircraft manufacturer next and then maybe try borrowing a set from another facility. I'm hoping they'll listen to reason. We are a customer service faci...

Re: OEMS Limiting Access to Maintenance Publications

Interesting. Kannad recently pulled all their manuals and at the same time started a dealer program which runs several thousand dollars a year and has no other requirements. Can't get continuing airworthiness manuals without being a dealer. Checked with TC and of course they don't care if the manua...

OEMS Limiting Access to Maintenance Publications

So a bit of a rant here... I'm trying to get a hold of some maintenance manuals for engines manufactured by Honeywell. My company has held these subscriptions in the past, but let them lapse as we did not have much action with the aircraft types for some time. Now work has rolled in the door, we've ...

Both AME's and AMO's are terribly underpaid. I'm an AME and work under an AMO and disagree. AME's are paid by AMO's based on their value to the company. The ones the AMO's really want to retain and have specialized skills make good money. I've seen it time and time again. The fact is that licensed ...

Re: Looking for advice on LED position lights

You can't just order up some new LED Nav lights as installing them would constitute a change in the type design. In this case I would think that it is a major modification per CAR 571.06, which means that you would need an STC to approve the installation of LED nav lights. There are some business je...

Re: Seeking Advice on Diagnosing Oil Consumption

Best thing to do as stated in a few other posts is to de-cowl your engine, spray wash with varsol, wait until dry and run the engine for a while. Oil leaks should be easy to spot on a clean engine. It's strange that your Airwolf oil separator does not keep the oil off the belly. Are you sure it's in...

Re: Seeking Advice on Diagnosing Oil Consumption

Please whatever you do, don't clean your engine with 100LL or other gasoline. Fuel is for burning in engines. All you need is a little static electricity or other small spark and BOOM! You won't be worrying about an oil leak any more...

Use varsol, it's for cleaning oily parts.
