Re: Re registering grass strip.

If it's "certified" then it becomes an airport, and you can fly scheduled air services from there. FIgure on $100,000 of upgrades and paperwork, and a couple of years of work.

This is the official document from Cessna. It doesn't detail any significant differences in spin recovery characteristics between the two models.

Re: Mandatory life jacket wearing coming for most seaplanes

Just as another data point, Bryan the dunker guy teaches people to put on a life vest in the water. Not as a preference to having one on before the event, but as an acknowledgement that many people won't. His protocol is to wait for the aircraft to stop moving, grab the lifevest in its pouch, orient...

Re: Airport Parking Ruled a Taxable Benefit

Or put differently: if the tax agency was based at the airport, and the government provided free airport parking to the tax agency employees, I doubt the airport parking would be considered a taxable benefit by default. Do you have any factual basis for your doubt? Can you point to some things that...

Re: Airport Parking Ruled a Taxable Benefit

The rules are made by politicians, and implemented by public servants. That’s a really good example of deflecting the issue: criticizing public servants as privileged and overpaid, whcich, even if true, is irrelevant to whether parking should be a taxable benefit. It’s not a personal thing, and it w...

Re: PE issues

PEs do have a “boss” inside TC. Item 1 should induce a word with the responsible CASI or the team lead, which (one hopes) gets it fixed, and it shouldn’t happen again. Don’t forget a written reason has to be given for a mark less than 3, so there should be no controversy. Marking a 2 for correctly f...

Re: Can I get PIC, PIC X/C, PIC Hood all in one flight?

Hood time with a generic person is not "dual" time. Dual time must be with someone qualified appropriately for the giving of dual instructional time towards the licence or rating in question. (Often but not necessarily by having an instructor rating.) "Hood" time with a safety pilot is useful toward...

Re: Can I get PIC, PIC X/C, PIC Hood all in one flight?

Also if I want to get hood time with another pilot and he doesn't yet have a PPL/RPP he can be my safety pilot as you stated earlier? I ask because I can save money on paying an instructor if a generic person can be my safety pilot... Paying an instructor to be a safety pilot is a bad idea, because...

The national average for a PPL is 71 hours.

Regrettably, TC doesn't collect statistics on number of hours at first solo.

Re: Can I get PIC, PIC X/C, PIC Hood all in one flight?

For the third time (I'm losing count) yes, you log it as both x/c and simulated instrument time.

But you can't count it towards both requirements for a licence or rating - when you add up the time to meet the experience requirements, you may only count it towards one or the other.

Re: Can I get PIC, PIC X/C, PIC Hood all in one flight?

I have my PPL... But can I log PIC X/C and PIC Hood in the same flight. Yes you can (and should) log it in both columns. But you can only count it towards one or the other requirement for a licence or rating - not towards both. What you record in your logbook isn't the same as what you count toward...

Re: Can I get PIC, PIC X/C, PIC Hood all in one flight?

It depends if you have a RPP or PPL already. If you don't, and you're flying using a Student Pilot Permit, then the instructor can't "let" you be PIC, because then he or she would be a passenger, and you can't carry a passenger with a Student Pilot Permit - the only way you can fly two-up is if the ...

A good rule is to charge the same rate as the flight school is charging plus travel expenses,
A good rule is to charge what your time is worth.
A better rule is to charge what it’s worth, plus a 30% markup.
