Re: Commuting from Sunshine Coast/Bowen Island/ Squamish to YVR
I commute from Squamish, mostly to downtown, but occasionally to YVR south terminal. I'm out the front door 1hr before report time for downtown and 1.5hrs before for YVR. The downtown to YVR portion can be anywhere from 10-30 mins depending on traffic. Going home from YVR in the evenings will be 1.5...

Re: Harbour Air
@AirDoan - Honestly, the Twin Otter FO position at HA probably is not the right path in your case. First of all, candidates are chosen from within, so you'd have to start on the dock or front counter. The wait has been anywhere from a couple of months to years. It all depends on how many people are ...

Re: Harbour Air
Rumour has it the pilots call the dock and counter staff "assassins". Probably a few real colourful stories there. Rumour is completely false. The fresh FOs are jokingly called assassins. Seeing as all FOs are former dock or counter crew, the Captains have a great rapport with them, and its all ver...

Re: $25 k to fly the Mars
$25k for 1.0 in a plane that rare is actually not a bad deal. For comparison, here are some other 'bucket list' flight costs:
0.7-0.8 in a MiG 29 in Russia - $23,850
0.9 in a Spitfire in England - $8300. (keeping in mind the GBP shit the bed this morning)

Re: Seaplane regulation changes proposed
I completely agree with the egress training requirement. I am a pretty strong swimmer and very comfortable in the water. But I was surprised by the disorientation when I took Bryan Webster's course years ago. I think new seaplane pilots would be smart to have the course done before setting out on a ...

Re: Question about a strange floatplane experience
I re-read your post 3 times and I'm still not sure what you are saying. Who would even put the aircraft down on the ramp? How else do you get the plane in the water? I wouldn't even do that with the engine pickled. Pickled? You owe me 10 dollars. Cheque is in the mail. To be clear, I have not and wi...

Placed on the ramp with the engine running and nobody inside? Twice I've had the plane slide down the ramp when I lower the cradle.crazyaviator wrote:Not abnormal done that at times in Orillia

Re: Question about a strange floatplane experience
The Beaver was put on the ramp with the engine was running with no one in the cockpit? Not normal, at least I have never seen that, and would not dream of doing it. Seems like a great way to end up swimming after the plane one day. It is normal to warm up the engine on the drive to the ramp, but wit...

That is a pretty good price. Make sure you ask: What type is it on? Does it include taxes? is there a fuel surcharge?. For comparison Fort Langley Air is on a C180 and $2450 all in.

Definitely go to Pitt Meadows. You won't have to worry about skirting YVR to get downtown, and its closer to the mountains. Island Coastal is probably who you want to talk to.

Re: DHC IPad Mounts
Here is the setup I used while trying out Foreflight and Garmin Pilot. Its a RAM suction cup, 3" arm, and X-Grip. The system worked very well, didn't obstruct vision or block any instruments. If it was my own plane I might change the suction cup for a screw down plate, and get a holder designed spec...

Re: external GPS for Ipad
I bought a BadElf Pro+ to pair with my iPad Mini and FltPlan Go app. It worked very well. I was surprised at how many satellites it would find, even when clipped to my flight bag on the back seat. It didn't even need to be on the glare shield to get a signal. If you are in the YVR area you are welco...

Re: Float Rating In Southern Ontario - Inquiry
I find it odd that a company would put you into a twotter on floats with zero float experience. We all know that a basic 7 hour float rating barely scratches the surface of what you need to know to fly floats commercially. Why not learn the rest sitting right seat in a TO with an experienced Captai...

Re: Float Rating In Southern Ontario - Inquiry
That piques my interest. A CPL "Captain" is very likely entitled to issue a float rating, I wonder where the gap in process. I imagine the gap is the requirement for 5 solo circuits. That is not going to happen in a Twin Otter. To the OP, make sure wherever you decide to do the rating has a Authori...

Re: Pearson UPX Train Service
Same reason they change a ridiculous amount of money to take the sky train out of yvr. As much as I despise the $5 YVR surcharge, it pales in comparison to $27.50 for the UPX. The math doesn't seem to add up. The Canada Line cost almost 4 times the money to build, is about the same length, but is o...
