Re: Pzl 220 hot cylinder

I would have some one do an induction system leak test. Hook a clean shop vac to blow and put a positive pressure in through the throat of the carb. Check the entire intake system for leaks with soapy water. It has an intake manifold for each bank of cylinders, rather than segments connected with hos...

Donated airplane ride?

Wondering about the legal implications of a private pilot in his own aircraft donating an airplane ride to a club for a raffle or door prize. Maybe a flying club member donates a 1 hour ride in his private R44 as a door prize for an event. As it is a door prize, tickets are not sold, no money change...

Re: Pa 28-160 compass leak

I have even had some heated discussions with Transport Canada Airworthness Inspectors if an AME could even install a compass kit and fill it. They argued it was "specialized maintenance" and had to be done by an appropriatly rated AMO (instument o/h shop) Can't quite remember who won the argument, b...

Re: AME's who are thieves Part Duh

So photfly, why didnt you send the tank out to Hartwig youself? What was ths amount of the repair? Did the AME pay the Hartwig bill? If he did Ill bet he had to put it on his visa card. Did the AME have to wait to get paid by you? What would you sugest the AME should have marked up the Hartwig invoi...

Re: Give your head a shake!!!

I don't know, How many US aircraft are you going to do a thorough pre-purchase inspection before you find "the right" one? Probably not the first aircraft you look at down there is going to be "the one". So you take an AME for a week, look at a bunch of advertised "pristine" junk Cherokee's for 2-3 ...

Re: Hose Fabrication

Aviall has a hose shop in Dallas. Give your local branch a list of what you need and you will have them in about 2-3 days.
You might have to get your local AMO or shop with an Aviall account to order them for you.

Re: Water contaminated fuel.

Keep in mind draining the fuel sumps on an aircraft that has been sitting out in below freezing temperatures that you are not going to get any water out. In fact you are probably going to bugger up the quick drain if there is ice in there. Not saying don't check your sumps if it is below freezing. J...

Re: Annual Inspection and Maintenance for Owners

Iflyforpie and Big Pistons Forever I know exacty where you are coming from. Are you ever left feeling its "us" as in AME's against "them" as in private aircraft owners? How about the customer who pulls up in his T210 with a new glass panel or shiny Barron complete with new paint and leather interior...

Re: 8130 Form

The invoice you get from A/C Spruce does have a certification on the bottom. At first glance it looks like a "conformity certificate". If you read it, it is definitely not a certification of the products, actually I think it is preprinted on the invoice, the same as the letterhead. It is a preprinte...

Re: 8130 Form

My rant for the day: Aircraft Spruce Canada sells parts cheaper than I, as an AMO can buy them supposedly wholesale. That makes it tough for me to supply parts. I checked on a starter from Aviall (supposed to be wholesale) and my price was about $50.00 more than the owner could buy it himself from S...

Cost of doing business

Just got a invoice from Viking. It seems all their maintenance manuals are now on CD or DVD. You have to buy the DHC-2 parts, service, repair manual plus service bulletins as a package. That package is around $1000.00 plus $1000.00/year for updates. That is pretty steep for a couple of S/B's every f...

Re: Deicer boot removal

Peerco is not a paint stripper. It is designed specifically to remove adhesive. You can dribble it on painted surfaces and it will not hurt the paint. It is pretty tame, and tastes better than old school strippers

Re: Deicer boot removal

Get a product called PEERCO 321 Adhesive remover. It is available from Aviall.
It won't hurt paint but it takes adhesive (1300L) off pretty good. It even smells nice, like oranges. It dosesn't bite your skin and burn like Turco or Talstrip do.

Go-no-go filter

Where can I buy a fuel filter for a barrel pump? Looking for a go-no-go type inline filter for Avgas. All the helicopter guys seem to have one mounted on their pumps, but I can't seem to source them out. Wix, or Facet filter maybe
