Who paid Sunwings Govt loan that was taken out during Covid? Was it the profitable hotel business or the WestJet employees?

I’m still very confused on what WestJet pilots get? 80,000 block hrs means nothing when you add 550 pilots. Seems very one sided at this point. Hopefully arbitration will balance things out.

Short answer is YES. If you take job security and a new contract you don’t get to hold spots out of seniority.

For Montreal, it's a 100% win for westjet pilot in the event of a DOH and bid. They didn't have a YUL base before. So worse case scenario they can't have a base they didn't have, best case they remove some swg pilots who were there for years... The Montreal base might be a loss for some sunwing pil...

As soon as Sunwing pilots are represented by ALPA they will get Westjet Pay, also Reserve. which is 18 days a month and not commutable! 16years to get off reserve out west! It will be a tough pill to swallow for both sides!

The pilots with no ATPL I assume are lower on the list. If WestJet is truly over staffed they will just lay them off. There is no scenario where WestJet carries hundreds of extra pilots. They always run lean very lean.

After all is said and done Encore will be part of WestJet. Sunwing integration will take place and everyone at WestJet, Encore and Sunwing will hold a position their seniority will hold. Some Sunwing pilots could end up at Encore…Mainly the cadets that don’t meet WestJet requirements.

DOH is ok no fences. You get what your senority can hold. How can you get more fair than that!

Westjet will for sure lay off pilots if the economy slows. The layoffs will not be a "result of merger", they will simply say there is less work than anticipated. Let's hope this doesn't happen! BUT because of sunwings business model they have way more pilots than tails they are brining over to West...

Everyone holds what there seniority number can hold period. Merge DOH is fine but NO ONE out of seniority! We did this already with swoop and we all know how that went.

I just meant that mostly all Sunwing captains will be on reserve for may years. The Westjet FOs with more YOS will keep jumping the Sunwing Captains. 16 years to be off reserve in Calgary! and Probably longer in Vancouver

If it's true most Sunwing Capts have only been at the company for less than 10 years they will staff the reserve blocks being so JR. Most of the current Westjet pilots will be off reserve while most Sunwing Capts will take the reserve spots.

Westjets YYC base is wanted by many pilots. Upgrade times are 16 years to be off reserve!! I doubt Sunwing Yyc pilots will just keep their spot. Considering they got a 100% raise form 2019 and job security.....
