Re: Manitoba Govt Air Services to be Privatised
Where is Filmon now? Well, Chairman of the board for EIC, Which owns CALMAIR PERIMETER KEEWATIN CUSTOM HELICOPTER PAL East Coast WASAYA (SOON) and in the back pocket of the Conservative Government. SO, who would you think has the upper hand in taking over 100% of Manitoba Government Air Service. Cor...

Any reputable company today that recognizes the need for quality pilots will pay a bonus to have you instead of asking for training bonds.

Re: Ice out 2017 predictions
Northern Manitoba has not yet seen warm days. The overall melt is very slow with most lakes still ice covered. Record snowfall is also causing concerns. The Northern Rivers are the highest in recorded history flooding out entire camps. All control structures are fully open and MB. Hydro is scramblin...

Anyone who feels they can successfully perform a commercial standard steep turn, try it after taking an effective dose of Tylenol. The results may surprise you.

If your 208 has de-icing boots, prop de-ice and a hot plate, and you need them then best stay home.

Re: First sign of spring!
There is no perfect time to look for next season's float pilots. If you find one pay that pilot what it's worth to you and chances are they will stick around for a season or two. Abuse them and you keep looking. When you find a good pilot pay them extra, they are worth it to you and your customers.

Maybe " going nowhere fast" says it all. Don't know to much about either company, but if purchasing a company to keep the maintenance and pilots going I would consider that a good thing. If needing to run a business on a lean track is necessary then do so. if you expect growth in a company through p...

Re: DHC-3T Stol Kit
I fly both. I much prefer the STOL kit. The take off and landing speed a little slower, want to hang a little before touch down. Depends a little on the engine. I like the Garrett only for the extra power, and love the fuel burn rate, much better than the PT6.

Insurance
Pilot
Fuel/Oil
Engine TBO
Prop TBO
=$395.00 per hour
$395.00 X 3 = $1185.00 per hour Charter Rate
$1185.00 / MPH 110 = $10.70 per mile
I used a fuel rate of $1.70 liter
The variables are pilot rates/ Insuranance costs/ hours flown annually.

Re: External loads on private float plane.
Since January 1st, 2011 you require a STC for external loads approved by transport Canada and stamped by an engineer. Although the STC and the Stamp don't make it any easier is does give you the right to do it and should something happen your CofA and Cof Insurance are still valid. Should an acciden...

Re: C206 VS Beaver
If the purpose is to only fly guests then the 206 is not bad, better if turbo charged. If you need to move freight at times then the Beaver is the better option. The operating and charge out rate for the Beaver is higher, but it will also perform must better. As for comfort, the Beaver is spacious a...

Re: 2014 Float Season
One more thing to consider. I see many operators have filing cabinets full of 2-6000 hour resumes, many of semi retired pilots. They will go through those before they look at anything less. Float flying is becoming less common than 15-20 years ago. Then it was the first step, no longer. I believe th...

I suppose he is not looking to advance his flying career! Imagine someone hiring him and once again he decides to look for even green pastures, another hijacking!
In my personal opinion hijacking an aircraft falls under international law, regardless where he lands he should placed in prison.

Another problem may be that there is work for many of these doctors, but, they would prefer to work in urban areas and not necessarily where the demand for doctors really exist, in Northern and remote areas.

If bush flying really interests you and you already have your CPL get a few books, one on sailing and another on tying ropes. Ace those two things together with a little common sense and a float endorsement from someone who knows then consider yourself on track. Enjoy yourself!

Much dependant on the Otter being piston or turbine. we have operated both Otters and Caravan and the only thing that scares me with the Kodiak is the Cabin area size which is 100 sqft less than the Caravan and even more than the Otter with same amount of seating. If you are considering any freight ...

Re: beaver hourly operating costs?
My earlier method of determining the Piston Beaver operating at $355.00 has additional equations for figuring out the Charter Cost. The operating costs multiplied by 3 divided by airspeed in MPH. 3 X 355 = $1065.00/110MPH = $9.68 per mile. Once again the speed will vary as will fuel costs, insurance...
