Re: When to get the medical?
When I spoke to the HR person from Nav Can it was explained to me that a CAT1 is sufficient so long as it is valid, but it does not revert to a CAT2 when it expires. So basically a CAT2 buys you two years and a CAT1 only gets you one.

Re: Tailwheel Checkout In Ontario?
Floats on a Decathlon...I doubt it, a Citabria maybe! I don't know much about it, someone from Rockcliffe had said that to me a while back, maybe they meant on a different plane, I don't. In any case it would be in the distant future if it did happen, but more than likely mis-understood, my apologi...

Re: Tailwheel Checkout In Ontario?
FYI The Rockcliffe Flying Club in Ottawa at the aviation museum will be starting to do tail wheel checkouts and aerobatics training in a Decathlon. They just got the plane, they are just sorting out some paperwork before it is officially online. I am also quite excited about that, however, I believ...

Unfortunately the video looks legit. I don't think if someone were to fake that they would throw in other sound effect. A sad event.

Re: What to do, and where to go after PPL
Good harvest on the money tree, tca? For those who don't have at least 30-40k to blow on a toy, try and find a private owner who is selling block time for a reasonable price. More than likely you'll pay for dry time and you're on your own for fuel. $45-50 an hour for the time, $45-50 an hour for fu...

What to do, and where to go after PPL
I am posting this on behalf of a good friend of mine. He is currently working on completing his PPL with a flight college, however he would like to fly privately as well once he gets his PPL, any one have any advice as to where he should do this (in the GTA) or what might be good to avoid. Please le...

Re: How long for a PPL?
burninggoats, I completely understand your frustration, and I completely agree with everything you mentioned about how the Cadets are able to do it in such a short amount of time. I do not think that it is possible for someone outside of the Cadet program to realistically be able to think they could...

Re: Class F Airspace
Personally, I find that a bit frightening, that so many people do this, while what they are doing is basically demonstrating that they have done little if any flight planning. I used to fly out of the Ottawa area, and the restricted airspaces are not that hard to notice. In all honesty they are all ...

Re: How long for a PPL?
Every year the air cadets pumps many people through their piloting program from 0 hours to PPL in 7 weeks tops. In reality I don't think you'd be doing that though :P just saying that that is really the shortest allowable time for it that I have seen. It comes down to a couple things, it take a mini...

Looking For Block Rental Time
I am currently looking for a tailwheel aircraft to build some time on, I sincerely love flying conventional gear aircraft, and would love if anyone were to allow me to build some time on, or even just to try that type out with the owner for a flight or two. PM if you are interested or email me at al...

Re: BFC Instructor recommendation
For the Brampton Flight Centre I would full heartedly recommend Ben Ciantar, he is a extremely experienced man, A great instructor, and even though I am not doing training with Brampton at the moment, ( I was there to get checked out on their Super Cub) I still intend to go up with him every now and...

Re: Fly as many different airplanes as you can
I would go so far as to say that flying different aircraft types and driving different cars is not a suitable analogy. I find that when I drive a new type of car, the toughest part is figuring out the specific ergonomics. In a new type of aircraft it will handle differently, the systems will be diff...

Re: Tailwheel Checkout In Ontario?
I just began flying tailwheel aircraft myself, I went through the Brampton flight centre on their Super Cub, its a good plane, I had excellent instruction there, and now I am looking really just to fly some different types and build some hours. Here are some of the websites for the different places ...
