Re: Metro 3 ( dangerous as they say it is )
The only people that truly love metros are the accountants. The weight and volume those planes can move for their fuel burn is very impressive.

Re: Any plans for Socialized bidding?
I find it ironic that Porter pilots are extolling the virtue of seniority bidding, on the basis of a new hire getting the benefit of an expanding airline. This was the same argument that Flair pilots made during their growth phase, until it suddenly ground to a halt. Will Porter pilots still think ...

Re: Studies correlated with aerial firefighting
Hello everyone, I'm during studies at Faculty of Transport at Silesian University of Technology in Poland. We will acquire CPL and ATPL frozen licences but as you can guess it's rather more about car traffic and logistic than aviation and firefighting. I'm going to become an aerial firefighter one ...

That wouldn't have helped in this case though. They were airborne before the operating hours begun.goingnowherefast wrote: ↑Thu Mar 07, 2024 3:05 pm During operating hours, please publish any relevant updates. 8" of snow is relevant.

Re: Thunder Airlines MU2 accident in Wawa
Note to all you new captn out there: . Municipal airport s are not like rez airports. They dont get plowed on weekend s or holidays:wawa The runway likely had frezing rain then ice pellets and snow over top. You must contact the airport mgr.at any municipal. Before accepting a trip especially on we...

Re: Thunder Airlines MU2 accident in Wawa
Of all the ways to crash an MU2 this is likely the most survivable. But what a shame. On the other hand I'm surprised it doesn't happen more frequently. We've had some close calls as well, and at some point you're completely depending on the report of a non-pilot airport employee, who may or may not...

Re: Any plans for Socialized bidding?
Ground schools are full without you. You want to wait longer and have worse seniority? Cool. You want to stay where you are? Cool. Either way, the people that made the risky move of jumping to Porter early on in the Jet expansion also now are benefiting from their move and I very much doubt they wi...

Re: Any plans for Socialized bidding?
As opposed to all the other pilots here who came intending to use Porter as a stepping stone but became enamored with the lifestyle and realized they don't need or want to be chase metal. I see. So the people who intended to use Porter as a stepping stone, but changed their mind, don't want to do t...

Re: Metro 3 ( dangerous as they say it is )
I agree. I was reacting to the 'the crew had no chance' comment above. Even without the feathering, they could still have prevented the VMC roll by keeping up the speed an committing to the crash. Not a mentally easy thing to do, but it could have resulted in a possibly better outcome. With the lef...

Re: Any plans for Socialized bidding?
Ya sorry thats going to be a hard no from most of us here (except maybe the one FOAG guy that keeps talking about it). We didnt sit around for a year and a half during Covid - thinking we’d be getting our jobs back “in a few more weeks” - to start spreading love (socialized bidding) with people tha...

Re: Metro 3 ( dangerous as they say it is )
The Bearskin YRL incident is an outlier, that crew unfortunately had no change due to the nature of the partial engine failure they experience with enough residual torque and oil pressure to ensure NTS did not kick in. Couldn't they have feathered the affected engine? I get that they might have bee...

Re: Metro 3 ( dangerous as they say it is )
Hello aviators, I might have an opportunity to fly a metro 3 but I’ve been reading and hearing it’s a dangerous beast to fly ? I’d like to hear from other pilots that have flown it or still fly it if this is true ? Fly safe Dangerous? Not necessarily. Uncomfortable, hot, loud and noisy. Yes, absolu...

Re: Challenger 600 crashes on Florida highway
I will agree with you there. All I can think of is ice crystals blocking fuel screens. Although fuel/oil heat exchangers would warm the fuel, a couple hours at -50c (or colder) could cause any water in the fuel to freeze. Isn't there usually one per engine though? Seems extremely unlikely both woul...

Re: 1200TT pilot with jet time advice
Thanks for the tip @MD11, I will probably look into corporate flying before turboprops. The idea of a bond is not something that I can bear honestly, unless the gig is really good. Jazz is a great option but only if I get the jet time. Heard that you can’t really bid or pick your base/fleet so gett...

Re: Challenger 600 crashes on Florida highway
The NTSB preliminary report shows there were oil pressure warnings on both engines prior to the pilot's call to ATC about a dual power loss. https://aviation-safety.net/wikibase/351596 Isn't that just the equivalent to having an engine failure? Engine fails - oil pressure goes down - warning gets t...
