Re: West Coast Fishing
Thanks for the feedback. I didn't see these replies until now! We left on Wednesday (30th) and returned yesterday. A pretty decent trip. We left home, direct Vernon, fuelling up and stopping in at the Sparkling Hills Resort for lunch. Another fuel stop in Boundary Bay after flying through Hope, Chil...

CYBW-Mable Lake
I've got a buddy looking to find someone to fly an ailing sister in law from Springbank to Mable Lake on or around July 19th, then picked up again in 2-3 weeks. He says that driving that distance wouldn't work for her. I told him I would reach out to the aviation community. Not looking for charity, ...

West Coast Fishing
We are headed out from Calgary to Eagle Nook Lodge, south of Tofino for some fishing with clients. We will stop in Vernon for fuel, and have lunch at the Sparkling Hill Resort in Vernon. I'm looking for some ideas to 'over-night' on the coast somewhere. Maybe a helicopter friendly hotel, or just an ...

Re: ADS-B
Interesting news clip whereby two Government jets need to be replaced because they are not compliant to fly in the USA under the new rules. What a bunch of BS, and the news media is spewing this out. I was quoted 5500US dollars this morning to make my aircraft compliant. Garmin GTX 435. Even if that...

Re: Quebec R44 missing.
The article is overly dramatic. There's truth in it, but those truths apply to many Bell helicopters also. I agree that a low cost, entry level helicopter, coupled with a simple airframe and systems makes it a more vulnerable combination. The Bell 206 is also vulnerable to mast bumping if mishandle...

Re: Quebec R44 missing.
How did we get on the R22/R44 are horrible subject? We have no idea what caused this tragic accident. In my experiences, helicopters don't crash, usually the person behind the controls has (at least) something to do with it. If you put your mind to it, you can pretty much trash any chopper out there...

Re: C-gfxk (okotoks flight school) off airport
And the SJWs start. You bought a house in an air ranch. Attached to an airport. And b***ch about airport operations. Well said. I've been involved with this development for many years, although I don't live there. Landed there many times. Sh*t happens, looks like they set it down in a safe s...

Re: Flying Through YYC Class C Question
I fly helicopter regularly in YYC airspace. No big deal. Call 1-888-882-2254 and get a code before entering (from the east on 119.40. If you come through Springbank, they will give you a code to clear you through, unless you are above Springbank airspace, then call ahead and tune in to 128.70) These...

Sad. I knew John, although not well. He was a smart guy, big in to innovation. He didn’t live far from me.

Re: Lightspeed headset
I use the Tango in a helicopter and I'm happy with them. I don't fly all day every day, just casually. I love being unplugged. No side effects, if I have to step out of the chopper quickly with the blades spinning, I have noise suppression there too. I have the Zulus as well. All great products as f...

I've had my Lightspeed Zulu for over 5 years now, no issues so far. Noise-cancelling and comfort should be things to look for so a little investment is good. Anyone have any experience with the cordless version of the Zulu? I've got a couple sets of the Tangos in my helicopter. I like them but I do...

Re: Banner towing @ ZBB and lower mainland
Reviving an old thread. I have given thought to towing a banner by a private helicopter. Not looking to do this for hire, just doing it "because". I've been searching the requirements, and the only thing that I tend to argue with is the fact that one needs an OC to do this. I fully understand if thi...

Paul or one of the guys at Phoenix Heli-Flight are the best ones to talk to about helicopter operations around the area. Paul Spring has been up there for more than 25 years. Thanks for that. I have a message in to Paul. 123.5 is an advisory frequency for the area. Each airport has a discrete MF fr...

Fort McMurray Visit
I'm tentatively heading to Fort McMurray this coming Friday with some friends (by helicopter). We're going to stay one night. I thought it would be a shame not to tour some of then open mine projects they have out there, but at the same time, I didn't want to be a nuisance. From all research, all ai...
