Re: feeling a bit lost
I’m not sure any of us seasoned pilots can speak anymore about how to get the first job. The times are changing the days of starvation and “do what ever it takes” are disappearing in the rear view. I was helping a young guy get his first job up North and got a look at the letter of offer and just to...

Re: Definite Stall/Spin Accident
I own a 150. The seat sliding back even a couple of inches at that time could be very alarming to anyone not expecting it. A 150 will do a go around with flaps 40. Max power, lower the nose, get rid of the flaps at least to 20 it will fly away. I don’t think in my plane where the elevator position i...

Re: Caravan 208 B
I have just a couple hours in this wonderful bird. I do have to ask those that talk about the standby power lever making sure it’s in cutoff for start. All the ones I flew it was always witness wired in the stowed position and the only time I have ever had to use it it would break the witness wire a...

Re: North-Wright Runway Excursion
My question would be. Did maintenance do an engine run after work was completed. Did the pilots do a proper run up on an airplane coming out of maintenance or even a first flight of the day run up. Seems if something was not hooked back up properly it should have been caught before leaving good hope...

C208 what does this have to do with anything? “ Suncor has a nice fancy machine…..just saying!” “ The model changed for how passengers were moved back and forth from YYC and YEG and that was all.” this sounds like what happened to there very own department 5 years ago.

I was told some long time ago that the term “artificial horizon” was not correct as you can’t see yaw hence forth call it an “Attitude indicator” seemed to make sense to me.

Re: Airline pilots view on Corporate
This is solely my personal view on this thread. As I read I think there is a little problem. There is a big difference between 704 and Private/corporate. Once a plane goes to a management company and is available for charter the game totally changes. Yes the pilot workload is the same as corporate b...

Re: 172 down Hope BC ???
One must watch. I said I was going to do some mountain flying with a young guy (I am not an instructor) but have boat loads of mountain time, IFR time but it was suggested that we old guys that are just sitting around leave it to the pilots that get paid and not poach there flying. Kind of made me s...

I remember years ago being halfway between st John’s and the Azores in a caravan in the middle of a January night and after making a HF position a guy in a 747 calling us telling we were nuts.

“The carburetor float bowl contained a liquid consistent with fuel, which tested positive for water using water-finding paste.”
If there was water in the fuel plus the atmosphere was right for ice sounds like the perfect storm for carb ice.

“Legal is not always safe so again why would you want or need to fly a champ at night. Are you building time for licenses or are you a hobbyist. I'm not criticising, I'm just interested why would you go to all the time and expense to fly a champ at night. New private pilot and a champ at night is a ...

Re: Instructor trying to get real-world experience
It depends where the student might end up. If a young pilot finds her/him self up north in a single Cessna now flying in 3 miles and clear of cloud or SVFR and has never been flying in those conditions the learning curve and stress is very high! I had an old instructor take me out and do circuits in...

I did not look at the area around but if the field was full of kids playing do you think he would have landed there?
As for the AC crew that erased the CVR that should be cause for termination. If things went down like they said why did you erase it? It would prove you were right or full of shit.

DC PRO-X New price!
DC PRO-X Hybrid Electric Noise-Cancelling Aviation Headset. When cleaning our hanger we found a box in the corner that had 4 (3 left) of these headsets in it. They are used but in excellent condition. I believe they were spares. Have not been used in 4 years. All in original boxes with paperwork and...

Who got there start in CYFS - CET4
Good morning AVCanada. As I sit here sipping my coffee and doing my morning read I got to thinking how many of you out there got your start in fort Simpson? I was prompted by a Facebook challenge about aviation witch got me looking back and I realized it was 20 years ago just about to the day that I...

Fascinating story! My biological grandfather was killed in a lightning with spartan air service in what would have been the late 50s out of CYOW on a maintenance flight. Believe it was an engine failure on takeoff.
Thanks for the read.
