Re: Bose a20 and sunglasses

Took me many many moons to find a pair of prescription sunglasses to fit properly and not impede the ANR functionality of the A20. In the end, I sold a kidney ( my neighbor won't miss it ) and bought a pair of ridiculously overpriced RayBans from Vogue Optical. They aren't perfect, but BY FAR the be...

Re: Low time pilot looking for employment

It's always a good idea to use a universal format for your documents too.
Perhaps post your resume as a .pdf
Just a thought!

Could anybody be so kind as to explain "credit hour"?
Is it gate to gate, or duty hour, or some mystical formula?
Thx!

Re: Logging PICUS

When I did mine, I logged all 200 hours. I didn't differentiate between PF PNF. As well, because not all aspects of the operation can be done from the right seat in a 1900 (starting), I had to log a minimum of 20 hours in the left, to account for the 10 required. TC advised me of that one, as many p...

Re: headsets

I have tried them all. The noise cancelling portion of the equation is an almost exact comparison. The mic and comfort of the A20 sold it for me. I use good rechargeable NiMH batteries, and get 70+ hours. What a surprise when they fail tho. Bose A20 MUST be the worst PASSIVE headset ever! I fly a 19...

Would you buy a Chevy or a Lada..... There a a metric shit-ton of 172s kicking around. Parts and experienced mechanics will be plentiful. Cheetah's...I'm not so sure about. If you're hell bent on a Grumman, then make yourself happy. However, parts supply should be a considered factor in any purchase...

Re: WJ encore and the regionals

Take a step back. the BASE salary is 36 or 38k, whatever. However, that's BASE. If you choose reserve, and pass every chance to fly, you will be remunerated with 36k ish. If you bid for productive pairings, and take more flights, you will earn more. (plus more per diem) I do not appreciate the low l...

Re: Getting an IFR clearance

Departing VFR is just that. Follow the VFR rules and all is good. Departing VFR and expecting to get an IFR clearance in the air is risky. The controller didn't release you for a reason! He may put you in the penalty box and make you stay down low getting thumped around in the wx for 10 minutes befo...

Regardless of the salary.... Any knob that takes a job at a carrier who's soul purpose is to drive down the market should have their license removed! Why can't pilots see beyond tomorrow? Sure you'll get a PPC on a big plane, and maybe even a slightly higher paycheque for a few months. BUT in the lo...

As much as I wish for shorter days and more respectable rest periods....I fear this change, as good as it may be, may hinder smaller operations' pilots! We will certainly be required to work more days. This is a bummer, BUT, the real scary thought.... What will this do to wages? If an operator requi...

Re: Writting ATPL exams after IATRA

If you have 750 tt and whatever other requirements TC has in place, you can write.
If you write the as and get a type rating with them, then they're locked in. If you write the IATRA and use that for a type rating, then your As will expire 24 months after writing.
