Re: Snowbird crash in CYKA
I've been following this and have not to this point commented.... there are so many issues that are subject to conjecture in this accident and as it's a slow day around here, I'll make a few comments.... for what it's worth, I was on the third course to train on the Tutor in Gimli in 1965..... Re: Snowbird crash in CYKA
It's been a long time since I've flown the Tutor, but I was on the fourth class to train on it in Gimli ( 1965 ) and I'm pretty sure the original seat is not the one under discussion. The current seat with the 60kt capability was retro-fitted just a bit later... 1968-1969 if I recall and it was cons...

In response to co-joe...."Iv'e stalled one or two aircraft, never heard of one where 40 degrees nose down was required. What's the normal stall recovery pitch in the 767? Re: Boeing's "Battle over blame": reduce power or not?
Seems to me that basic airmanship would tell you to reduce power and control the airspeed.... does that have to be spelled out in a manual or checklist ?

I had a near miss with one shortly after takeoff one night departing Sao Paulo .... we were bound for YYZ and heavy.....it was a moonless night and pitch black . We had just cleaned up and were accelerating when we realized the single light we'd both seen pretty well on the nose was a balloon and I ...

I wouldn't be surprised to see a sharp bend in the jetstream that day in that area .FWIW

Re: Parking Brake on the Runway
It seems to me that the OP was questioning the use of the parking brake when in position on the runway for takeoff. There have been all sorts of situations covered in the previous posts that really have nothing to do with the original question. Setting the brake after push-back has nothing to do wit...

Re: Bronson Creek Airstrip
I just came across this thread, and the name Bronson Creek didn't mean much to me, but the Iskut River certainly did, and as I read the posts, I realized that I had been to the area with Jack Anderson ( North Coast Air Services ) back in 1963 or 64 when they were exploring for what later became the ...

Justjohn.... Actually what you quote re: the Dash 8 is not at all what the original question I responded to is about.... as I recall the original question it was could a C 46 maintain altitude with one engine out and the other windmilling.... so how the hell does any twin do this ? You're talking ab...

that was my point.... a twin engined airplane is not going to go very far with one engine out and the other one windmilling.... whoever asked the question knows absolutely SFA

I must be missing something here. The question seems to be can a C 46 maintain altitude with one engine out and the other windmilling. As the C 46 is a two engined airplane the answer is fairly obvious to me....

Re: RCAF pilots with MiG kills
How soon we forget.... F/L Ernie Glover had three kills and three damaged. I got to know him a bit during the late sixties. He had been promoted to S/L on a temp basis a couple of times and then had to revert to F/L and finally just left his F/L stripes at the width they were when he was a S/L..... ...

Re: First day of spring in Seal Cove
It looks a lot like the day I went to Port Simpson with Jack. On the way back it was snowing pretty good and we were taking the long way home via Metlakatla Pass and eventually even Jack didn't like it so we landed and waited for half and hour or so. Cleaning the wings off so we could take off was a...

This is an interesting thread and brings back many memories from many years ago. As I was brought up in Rupert and got my PPL there in 1960 I used to spend a lot of time at Seal Cove. I hung out at North Coast and got to know Jack pretty well. I used to help load his 180 and then when he got his fir...

Re: MrWings not having seen one out west..... PWA flew one out of Seal Cove ( Prince Rupert ) in the early sixties. Re: Ice Pilots - Season 3
I do realize it's a TV show, but some things just don't add up to this old driver airframe. A few weeks ago, Devon was " training " the young " rookie " and I just couldn't believe how the training went. There was little or no " training " at all. It was just dump on the kid when he made a mistake. ...
