Re: Floatplane Camping - Do's and Don'ts
So after getting side tracked for two months of the summer, I made a phone call to Alberta Parks in regards to getting permission to land and fish in one of their designated lakes. Great person I dealt with and an email letter for authorization was received later that afternoon. Has to be done annua...

Re: Did Forest fire Cause Double Engine Failure
I know absolutely nothing about the plane but shared a crew house with a guy who flew them for 20+ years. His reasoning for leaving the electra and the company was the frequency of multiple engine failures.

Think they have had two mishaps lately?
First heard Beaver then saw the Otters tail sticking out of the water when I got the photos.

No talk about the Otter that hit the water a few days ago in northern Ontario. No injuries I hear.

Re: Floatplane Camping - Do's and Don'ts
While a good idea to avoid conflict and abide by provincial regulations, keep in mind that the Supreme Court has ruled that provinces and municipalities have no authority to regulate where aircraft can land, take-off or otherwise operate. So, while a good idea to comply with the provincial regulati...

It’s not considered a complete season unless you fall off the floats a couple of times.

Re: Seaplane basesbn alberta
As far as I know there aren’t any. Closest you’ll get is to land in the lake by the airport in High Level and have the FBO fuel truck come down to the wharf if it’s still there. I ferried a plane to Yellowknife 15-20 years ago and that was the procedure at that time. I don’t think you’ll find anythi...

Re: day surgery for a skin cancer and medical cat 1
Cockpit windows block zero UV rays. Long sleeves and sunscreen is mandatory if you don’t wana go down this road. Beaver is OK for sunscreen. Otters not so much. Sweat washin sunscreen down into your eyes doesn’t help your forward vision. Truckers go through all this stuff too. Very common in their i...

Re: day surgery for a skin cancer and medical cat 1
Yea, don’t hide anything. Everything is a available to them on line. I was in N Ontario in 21. It got so wet and sore, the growth, that I had to get something done. Had a phone consult with a specialist in Thunder Bay and had the surgery a couple months later. Only thing that will bother your Cat 1 ...

Re: Encountered Severe Weather Enroute Thread
My question is WTF are they cruising at FL 270. My time in a 550 was spent at the high 30’s and low 40’s. That much traffic down there they couldn’t get higher?

Re: Medical requirements
I had a Cat 1 medical done in the 90's and something showed up. Was my first Cat 1. Think I had another ECG done and the explanation was "non specific T waves." It can mean there is nothing wrong, just your signature on the paper is a bit different that the perfect test. It's been on my file sense t...

Just thought it strange that they filled the 8 positions so soon. Nothing open either on their web site for career opportunities. Thought it was a bit quick considering the so called shortage of mid time float pilots.

Try Kuby's Maintenance shop at Kenora Air. Last time I was in the old hangar, there was one in pieces that had no value and I know they munched another one sense then.

Re: Carb Ice/Heat in a Beaver
Ya, well, I've read it too and chased the inlet temp with heat today and experienced the worst case of carb ice I ever had. Almost put me back on the water after loosing 800'. His reason was that on a day like today, I was making carb ice with heat causing it to run too rich. Have a fair bit of DHC-...

Carb Ice/Heat in a Beaver
Anyone have any pros or cons on the use of carb heat in a Beaver? Have always been told to use a little and always keep the inlet temp in the green if the instrument is accurate. CP told me today not to use it unless there is a drop in MP and then only till MP is restored.
