Re: Captains of the North, what makes you stay?

A majority of the Canadian population lives in the most unremarkable geographic parts of our country. I hate traffic noise and love Loons.

Re: Truckers convoy

I’m not sure the water cannons would work very well in these temps, especially with variable quartering tail winds.

Re: Road Trips

I am seeing a change in the bush world. If indeed you are serious about a career, I think the future looks bright for the guys who are serious about it. There are a lot of folks my age and older who are in the twilight of their days flying Otters. I was very lucky to have different options the last ...

Re: Seaplane down with seven on board.

Great point Mosky. I recall watching some YouTube corporate guys landing. Captain called for gear down. FO called gear down three green while the gear was still in transit. I saw one green light. I love my floatplane that is always floating!

Re: 2021 beaver salary

If your first question is “ How much are you getting paid” for flying a Beaver, then I would suggest a bush flying job may not work for you. I love my bush flying, and I am paid well, but first and foremost, I love my bush flying.

Re: Pilots in waiting NWAL Post

Don’t underestimate what you may learn just being around an air service and experienced pilots. It will also look better on the resume than something unrelated to aviation. Immerse yourself in the local aviation community. You never know who you made have made an impression on by casual contact. It ...

Re: Bucket list

The mountains in Yukon and NWT are hard to beat. I’ve worked up there. Also Northern Quebec/Labrador and Torngat mountains are beautiful. Lots of water to explore and fish all the way up there. Rapid Lake Lodge highly recommended. I always wanted to try some of the islands in Lake Superior.

Re: Advice for a newbie

The best routes may revert back to starting in tradition ways. CFI to light twin. Dockhand to float pilot. Build some time then on to charter/ medivacs. The days when low time guys got right seats in the airlines are a memory for now. It might come back quicker then I think, but I have a number of f...

Re: Retirement Dreams

Turning 60 this year and hope to continue my seasonal Otter flying as long as I can. I consider
myself retired when I gave up framing houses at age 48 to fly. Works for me. Keep it simple.

Re: Question for the float/bush pilots!

I know I was the luckiest bush pilot in Canada last season. Lost my job due to covid, was in southern Ontario the first week of June thinking I was back in construction for the year and got a call to go fly an Otter. Unbelievable really. Point I will make is even if the border does not open fully th...

Re: Mental Health 2. Processing an accident

Had a Beaver quit on me two months in to my commercial career. One thing was for sure. It won’t fly long without power. In your case. You can’t steer it if you can’t steer it. I very quickly asked myself, what do you want to do for a living? Answer, fly. That worked for me. Best of luck going forward.

Re: Seaplane hits kayaker

Just yesterday was coming in to our base lake, saw a boat near a point quite a ways back on final. As I neared the lake the boat turned towards the center of the lake and then my eye caught some splashing way out in the middle of the lake. It was two kids swimming. No life jackets for vis. Turned an...

This coming from a 10 year 5000 hour float guy. I’ll gladly take your options away by taking that 206 job. Just pass on the contact. I’m currently looking at warehouse work for the next year to make ends meet. I wouldn’t spend a lot of time sitting by the phone waiting for the call to come back to t...
