Re: piper arrow down at CYFD

I was at the pilot's funeral (we were hangar neighbours) and someone said "he just would not accept that he wasn't allowed to fly anymore". Very sad, he was just such a nice gentleman and his wife who died with him was also such a nice lady. They stuck together like glue especially since after she w...

Re: Ethiopian Airlines: 'No survivors' on crashed Boeing 737 max

Here is a simple description "what to do". It seems exactly the same procedure as the above mentioned "trim run-away".

It is actually very sad.

He owned a 182 and a 150 or 152.

Re: piper arrow down at CYFD

All I am saying here is that I believe the pilot did not want to be seen (or heard) flying, that's why he flew in the middle of the night. He owned several airplanes which were stationed both in Burlington as well as in Brantford. He flew from Burlington to Brantford. The radar picture (attached) ma...

Now that we know that the engines produced power at impact. Here's my take: CFIT - black hole effect.

Re: IFR Validity Change - No more checkrides

Perhaps I don’t completely understand this, but I think it is a big improvement for me. I go flying with my instructor usually at least once a year. So next time, we make that session the IPC. I don't have to worry if it is not perfect because my IR will not be invalid as after a failed Flight Test....

Meatservo wrote:What is the reason for this change?
I was told that having an expiry date on the IR is against ICAO rules/standards and TC wants to be conforming with ICAO.

Re: IFR Validity Change - No more checkrides

I asked my TC contact "So, as far as you know, I do have to have an IFR check ride with an examiner before the stated expiry on my extension?". The answer I received yesterday was "Yes – a flight test is still required every two years (IFR/PPC or IPC). Once complete the examiner will annotate page 1...

Re: IFR Validity Change - No more checkrides

This is straight from Transport Canada as of this morning (I had successfully applied for an extension): "Not sure if you heard but instrument ratings no longer expire anyway. We are just getting to advise everyone so there will be lots of changes to our processes in the near future. While we are in...

IFR Validity Change - No more checkrides

I have heard that sometime soon (???), Transport Canada will change the IFR validity to basically match the FAA regulations. That would mean basically and abbreviated your IR will never expire AS LONG as you are current, i.e. no more IFR checkrides. For the FAA you are current as long as you follow ...

Re: Serious wind Damage CZBA Tonight.

I was there this morning. Absolutely amazing. When I looked at it, my brain could first not comprehend what has happened. There were hangars, right? Where??? The whole hangar row is just GONE, yes GONE without a trace, no posts, door, sidewalls, frontwalls, roofs, all GONE. There’s not even debris t...

Yes, I agree. This and the other picture look like the airplane fell straight down which would indicate loos of control.

Re: Missing north of Peterborough

Also odd that Capt. Jean Houde from JRCC Trenton is spouting this BS (unless the Toronto Star is misquoting him, which is entirely possible): "Regulations stipulate that if a pilot is flying further than 25 nautical miles (50 km) from their departure point, they must file a flight plan with NAV Can...

TRAGIC!

My theory/speculation stated much earlier was that they flew towards the VOR instaed on the LOC course. That was specifically looked at and investigated - and shown to be impossible. So I was clearly wrong.

Strip may be only 1100 ft long. Six people on board reported, no fatalities. Too bad for the airplane.
