Re: Resolute Bay Accident - Pilots Discussion Thread
The accident aircraft, as far as I can remember, had no FMS, nor a GPWS. If the crew were getting requests for a radial/dme, they could have used the GPS for that info, or dialed in the VOR http://www.airliners.net/photo/First-Air/Boeing-737-210C-Adv/0735441/L/&sid=12f28110b65724ff5b2cf20651ae27a3 ...

Re: Resolute Bay Accident - Pilots Discussion Thread
The circling theory does not make sense. An experienced crew that had been there many times before would never circle to that side, or circle in general in CYRB. There is no need for it with good approaches to either runway. Something happened, and the VOR scenario doesn't make much sense either. B...

Yes, they do.FICU wrote:As mentioned, the transfer switch is for non-normal situations only. What some of you are missing is that most FMS systems will provide radial/distance from a VOR so tuning it up with VHF Nav radios is not required. Does First Air have this FMS capability... I would think they do.

Re: Resolute Bay Accident - Pilots Discussion Thread
There's no question it was a CFIT. They tracked to the VOR instead of on the LOC, either because they forgot to switch freqs prior to intercepting, or else they flew the arc approach and again didn't switch freqs. There are only two remaining questions: Why didn't they switch freqs, and why didn't ...

Re: Resolute Bay Accident - Pilots Discussion Thread
What other approaches are there for 35T (besides the ILS/DME)? I don't have YRB plates. The TSB website states they were on approach to 35T...where does it say they were doing the ILS/DME? Anyone have a link to that info?
