Re: That was a close one...

If only they had an into-wind runway to land on… Problem is the training for controllers to work the 33s is very specialized.... "Cleared to descend fl180, maintain max forward speed" "Reduce to 120kt" "Turn right 20 degrees" "Turn left 30 degrees" "Increase to 180 knots " "Cleared to 12000" "For s...

Re: Bidding for base is only after getting hired?

If we unfortunately are assigned to a base far away from home, is there any way to be put back into the talent pool for the next batch of training? If we do get assigned away, how long does it roughly take to transfer back to YVR? At that point you’d be better off staying at Jazz. You’ll get a new ...

Re: The Reserve Life

How can you not have enough seniority to hold a so called block of flying rather then reserve if there is socialized bidding? The bottom 10-20% of each position is assigned reserve. The bottom 10% will always be reserve and the company can raise the reserve lines to up to 20% each month depending on...

I think for per diem if you’re not yyc based you get per diem from the moment your flight leaves your base to the moment it lands back at your base

Re: Air Canada vs WestJet

I think it comes down to a cost of living. If you want to own a home and don’t want to commute. Westjet in Yyc. If commuting is fine, AC. Otherwise if you want to rent forever, AC in YYZ, YVR or YUL. Although home prices are still somewhat accessible in Montreal from what I’ve heard. Or you can bui...

Thanks.
Good thing to ask in your interview. I asked in mine and was told there’s no commuting policy

Re: Negotiations

I don't even know what else to say to that other then I don't think this is sustainable for very long Despite all of the Kumbaya rhetoric, one can only presume that AC will be pressuring CHR on the CPA front. Whatever form that will take remains to be determined. The PAL initiative may just be the ...

Re: Grooming

Bullsh**t we clean the whole plane. This attitude is why we have the worst working conditions in the industry. I also call bullshit, we don't just "cross 2 rows of seatbelts". Passengers are gone? Get on those plastic gloves and start getting those napkins, empty wrappers and beer cans from seat po...

Re: Transair Flight 810 Crash NTSB report

Lots of companies use QRC’s without memory items which IMO is a far superior way of doing it OK, I've never seen one of those. So if you have one of these QRH's and have have severe engine damage or fire right after T/O, what do you do? Continue with a normal 2 engine departure? When does the QRH c...

Re: Interview

Sounds like the 2x class a month is still a thing. Not sure about much more specific things like response time post interview, hiring offer etc. I'm sure those in the mix can chime in. Find it intriguing they're still filling July apparently. For me it took 8 hours after I applied to get the email ...

Re: Negotiations

It was very clear before Jan 1st that flow was going to be ignored in favour of AC’s commercial interest. Here we are 6-7 months later and I don’t even think the grievance has be filled…. The grievance is just another piece of leverage the negotiating committee will use to improve conditions for th...

If you’re still at jazz anywhere near the east part of Canada, bid the E1, left or right seat. Get PPC, forget the line check, and apply porter. Jazz is Porter’s farm team. Free type ratings for accelerated course at porter. I’m a current e1 captain and applied for e2 captain 8.5 weeks ago and neve...

Re: Socialized bidding

To clear this up once and for all. From the latest published pilot lists, the date of hire to get off reserve as an FO are as follows: YYZ: Mar 2020 YVR: Mar 2017 YYC: Aug 2017 Source: May 2023 position assignment list published by ALPA. Now none of us know whether this will speed up in the future....

If all this negotiations ends in a flop Claude needs to step down Not sure what anyone would have done differently in his place. But I think it is becoming clear nothing is going to happen. Hence the stampede for the exits. Anyone know when the next WJ ground school is. Two weeks before that date s...

Re: Negotiations

I wouldn't be surprised if jazz sees huge movement especially with a lot of the YYC guys. Guys tired of temp basing and pay cut is almost negligible in the short run. Not even that much of a paycut. From the roadshow the take home for a year 1 fo is basically the same take home as a year 5 jazz cap...

Re: Sky regional 2.0

They tell you in the interview that you could be awarded any of the bases and types. If anyone has a problem with that they don’t have to accept the job offer. It’s not like it’s a surprise when you show up for groundschool. At least it’s not 2 weeks until you know like AC

No YVR positions again. 😂

West is reducing guys.
That haven’t offered yvr because any open position has to go to a current Jazz pilot first. So if someone is yyz Q and wants yvr they get the open spot and a new hire gets their yyz spot

Re: Socialized bidding

I’m still really surprised that such a high percentage of westjet pilots wanted to keep socialized bidding. We typically run between 85-90% satisfaction scores. The satisfaction score is the number of points you get divided by the maximum number of points you could get if you were awarded everythin...
