Easy for you to make incendiary remarks when you aren't the one who has to face the brunt of it.

Re: Muslim Pilots in Canada
There shouldn't be any distinction at all but we all know that discrimination occurs. Why should any group be invariably be subject to secondary inspections at airports?
Purpose of the thread was to hear peoples experiences.

Muslim Pilots in Canada
I am interested to know how the aviation industry has affected the morale of Muslim Pilots in Canada? Have you been subjected to extra security checks? Have you had trouble gaining employment? On the other hand do Muslim pilots feel that the industry here has supported them through Canada's values o...

Re: Eagle Jet International / Pay to Fly
Like it or not, MPL is here. Cadets usually pay upwards of $120,000 for Core FLying, MFTD, Type Rating and 500-1500 hours of Line Training. Would this too be considered Pay 2 Fly? I do think eagle , california falcon aviation, skies consultants and all the rest of those brokers are ripping people of...

Re: Eagle Jet International / Pay to Fly
Nark is quite right in saying there aren't many companies that offer Pay to Fly schemes. I think Eagle Jet has an agreement with AmeriFlight for their Beech 1900 Programs. It will be quite obvious that you have paid for the Type Rating and Line training. It might be best to be up front about it. I d...

Re: Looking for Advice - I want to Fly for a Living
I'm well aware that the industry is moving but it still takes at least 1500 hours for anyone to look at you seriously. Ha! Joining the military without the push ups? Are you kidding me? The MPL candidates go through a rigorous selection process, they do 14 atpl theory exams and have to successfully ...

Re: Looking for Advice - I want to Fly for a Living
I know the Oxford Aviation Academy , CAE and Flybe have teamed up to start an MPL course. Alpha Aviation Academy and easyjet in the UK also offer the program where you get an MPL License after you complete all the theoretical examinations and complete line training successfully. More and more airlin...

Re: Looking for Advice - I want to Fly for a Living
I would suggest moving to Europe/Asia and go the MPL (Multi Crew Pilot Licensing) route, it would probably be the fastest way to fly for an airline and after you have built some decent experience and obtain a full ATPL you can apply to Canadian carriers. It can take up to 7-10 years in Canada to get...

Re: Experience in IMC Conditions
With Icing in the winter and thunderstorms in the summer it can be difficult to log actual IMC for a good chunk of the year.
I think that filing IFR and doing as much actual IMC with an experienced and competent instructor is the way to go, its just not always possible.

Security
As a former flight instructor I had always noticed the constant lack of security at Flight Training Units with the ease of almost anybody easily being able to get on to the airside. Even when I worked out of controlled airports ; CYXU, CYKZ and CYTZ. The ramp people were not all that ever bothered a...

Re: Private Air
I am not sure what the current situation is but when I first got my license in 2008, I had a sit down with John and he was extremely friendly and gave me a good outline of the company profile. He's one of the few management pilots that takes the time to answer most of the employment requests he gets...

Remedial Training? - None Sit Downs? Only when screw ups occurred - Yes 2 hours plus at a time, The Supervisor, the student and myself talked endlessly in circles trying to cause the root cause of the problem. I didn't have an issue with this except the fact that the supervisor was on a salary and w...

Re: Hiring Instructors
I use to work about 250-300 hours a year instructing (Full Time). It was very rewarding, especially upgrading to a Class 3. It was just a struggle to financially sustain myself and the management of the flight school didn't seem to care. @Beef - The cost of flying in the middle east is almost the sa...

Re: Hiring Instructors
I understand that being professional and motivating yourself from day 1 is a key factor in your students achieving success but at some point a financial incentive has to come into play. I Instructed for nearly 3 years and I earned ; First Year(Full Time): $8000 Second Year(Full Time): $9000 Final Ye...

Flight Instructing with just a PPL (UK/EU)
I have known for sometime now that in the UK, A PPL holder can become Class Rating Instructor (CRI) and teach students depending on certain conditions! An applicant for the issue of a CRI (SPA) rating for single-engine aeroplanes shall have: a. A valid SEP (Land), SET (Land), TMG Class Rating or a S...

Just the media being dramatic, turns out it was just the one system that failed! With a tripple hydraulic failure you are as good as dead on the mechanical back up!

Do female pilots have it easier? Myth or Fact?
Someone mentioned this to me...
Do women have it easier when it comes to pilot hiring? Are there quotas in place for female aviators with major companies?
I dont hold an opinion on the issue but would love to hear your opinions.

Multi Crew Pilot License
CAE and Air Asia tied up with a Memorandum of Understanding from Transport Canada for implementing an MPL program in Canada which was carried out last year. (Cadets are in Malaysia now doing their Line training on the A320) All of the cadets had completed the program successfully and I have heard go...

@panama jack Yes Dual Rad Alt Fault is a nasty one as you are in Direct Law as soon as you get the gear down. I am still getting use to the bird, its a useful little tool that I was rather uncomfortable with during the initial part of the training. Off topic, Sully forgot the ditching switch (still ...

Thanks for the input and the kind comments. I will keep all of this in mind during the next sim eval in 6 months. The purpose of the exercise was to check your decision making process and how well you can use the other crew member in a difficult situation.

Re: A320 Engine Fire
All the ECAM Actions were complete but there was no time to get to the QRH (in the U turn scenario) . I would think programming the downwind runway in the Secondary Flight Plan (unusual) and mention this during the take off briefing might be a good idea as I can get the PNF to activate the secondary...

A320 Engine Fire
On a recent sim eval some of the pilots got an engine fire at V1, the drill was complete with all the ECAM actions completed and the fire was still not out. The weather was VFR and my question is that should the crew quickly turn around and reprogram the FMS and configure to land in a tailwind or fl...

Doing it in the states can be complicated because they have the SIC Ride and the PIC Ride where as Canada only has one type of ride.
