Re: SWOOP startup/WJ Tail loss

As WJ migrates 10 tails to Swoop, what happens to the 100 or so pilots that the company is now fat on? What happens in 3 years when they migrate another 10-30 tails? The Single Employer provisions of the CIRB were designed to expressly deal with the situation you envision. If jobs start to migrate ...

There is no room, nor no need, for an ULCC in Canada.
Praise KeK, but why did New Leaf start and then Flair move into that market and why are there others looking to start a ULCC? Moreover, how do you know there is no room for a ULCC? Are you an economist?

Praise KeK, but you might be misunderstanding the sequence of events. When the ULCC was announced, there weren't any unions at WJ.

Re: Gregg Saretsky is the modern Frank Lorenzo

Sincere question, praise KeK, but didn't the ULCC get announced and THEN the union certified? So isn't this, praise KeK, a situation of the union busting the ULCC? Plus, the ULCC wages are the same as the union negotiated pay at Sunwing and Transat. So why the haterz? Hey for an update of the WingNu...

SW makes FAR more then just those hourly rates.
Other than establishing that some trolls have high IQ's, what is your point regarding Canada/USA pay rates? How has that worked with any industry negotiating in Canada? Pay is market driven, and the USA is a separate market.

Re: Swoop/Sunwing/Transat: Hourly Pay

What is more, without any negotiation at all, these are the pay rates Swoop is offering pilots. Had the WJ pilots NOT certified with ALPA, these pay rates would have been higher, meaning higher than what ALPA negotiated at Transat and what Unifor negotiated at Sunwing. Former WJPA executives have un...

Re: Let's all apply at Swoop!

I mean Swoop is Westjet flying and Westjet pilots own Westjet flying altiplano , do you have any law to back up that statement? Or is that just your "feeling"? The "Westjet pilots" don't own anything. Period. They are employed by a company that owns (or contracts to a third party) all of the assets...

Re: (S.W.O.O.P)

Well under that train of thought the same outsourcing could be applied to doctors, lawyers etc. Ah, no. That would be a false equivalency. What you will be looking for in your research is examples of companies with unionized workforces that have set up a separate arm to service a low cost segment o...

Re: (S.W.O.O.P)

I think the argument was a bit more general on purpose. Airlines are not starting separate divisions every day so the real life examples are non-existent. Perhaps you have a Canadian example of a unionized airline setting up a separate airline with lower wages and working conditions besides Swoop. I...

Sunwing pays its 737NG pilots the same wages as Swoop will pay its 737NG pilots. Do you have another example?

Rowdy, perhaps you missed what the Executive Board said. It issued the policy on constructing seniority lists (non-merger, non-acquisition, non-sale) in order to avoid controversy in the future in the event of merger, acquisition, sale etc. What level of post-secondary education do you have? John Sw...

Re: Westjet goes ALPA

JBI, ALPA has not said they want the One List to continue. What they have said is that the WJ pilots will decide. I don't agree with that sentiment, but that is what the OC said. They also said that there was no ALPA policy regard to DOH and seniority lists. Then, I found the copies of the policy on...

Re: WJ Pilots seek ALPA unionization vote

Hi Finn. If you do the research, you will find that a union has to follow its constitution, but is given wide latitude by the courts on how to interpret that constitution. Given the numerous times that ALPA has revised its merger policy, it could have done so as well with its 1956 Executive Board po...

Re: WestJet To Launch ULCC

I'm not sure the team would be all that united under ALPA given the current and former Encore pilots (more of whom will flow every month or two) lose their position on the WPDL due to 60 year old ALPA policy. I also don't think seniority schedule bidding is going to unite the junior pilots, many of...

Re: WestJet To Launch ULCC

I don't think you should expect any overnight significant pay raises. It will be an arbitrated settlement that you will likely be disappointed with, and will probably not be in place until 2020. But if you're senior, or an OTS pilot, and not a mid seniority (or lower) pilot based in YYC or YVR, you'...
