Re: 3 dead after GSH AS350 crashes south of Resolute Bay

The Arctic although one of the most beautiful places to fly on earth has also been one of the most challenging and unforgiving to those that operate there. It goes without saying my thoughts and Prayers go out to the families and Great Slave Helicopters.

Maybe they can weld the gear down in RKB and put some skis on! I shouldn't of said that too loud!

Re: Dempster flame out?

When are people and companies going to learn that it is cheaper in the long run to be safe, the only time granny fuel is going to hurt ya is when your on fire! Flying around the arctic on min fuel sooner or later will catch up and I'm glad that the only thing that got hurt was this guys pride. We al...

Re: IFR " Lite "

When I was instructing we tried to keep the instrument work during PPL & CPL when able to those SVFR days or at night. SVFR is also a great for low level diversions . You always want to expose a student to reduced visibilities and ceiling as much as possible legally of course to expand experience an...

Re: Speaking French on the radio

I respect the fact that Canada has two official languages however small penguin just because somebody can't speak the other official language doesn't make them stupid or ignorant, just means they didn't have the same opportunities or requirement to learn French or vice versa as you. Not every...

Re: Speaking French on the radio

At risk of being politically incorrect I have to say that there shouldn't be any French on 126.7. Sooner or later we will have a forum on here on two aircraft that got toasted midair because of miscommunication. I've flown north of Quebec in Nunavut and a few trips into Northern Quebec which have al...

Re: Flight Training Standards East to West

To say the standards on the West Coast are higher than the East coast is too general of a statement so I won't take it personal. If that's your experience then call it like you see it. I flown with guys from all over Canada each day and I think they bring different regional experience to the cockpit...

I've flown with a couple Captains in my day that shouldn't of been Captains with 4000hrs not alone 1500hrs. I agree 1500hrs isn't a whole lot of time or experience but the quality of Captains can't be just defined by hours but many factors such as flying background and the individual themselves. Com...

Its normal for any new instructor to have the jitters about teaching spins or any other new exercise they first taught but there is a difference between jitters and fear. Being fearful of teaching spins comes from lack of confidence in their own ability which was present from their own personal trai...

The biggest difference between the C-172 and the C-150 diffinitly is control pressure required and control response. The C-150 is far more responsive and fun to fly than the C-172 when you want to yank and bank partly due to it being lighter and less stable ie: less dihedral. It also spins alot fast...

To explain lift to a student by Bernoulli's theorm alone is only giving a student a simplified version of a more complex subject. We also have to include Newton's Law and several other theories of lift to give the student the big picture. At this point I don't think anyone can say that it is 20% Ber...
