Combine ATP Conversion with type rating recurrent training
For those that have converted their Canadian ATPL to the FAA ATP do you know if it is possible to combine the ATP conversion requirements and recurrent type rating requirements into one training event? The end goal would be to walk away with a renewed PPC as well as the FAA ATP requirements complete...

Tailwheel Instructor for PPL Training?
Does anyone know of a Class 3 or higher instructor with tailwheel experience in the GTA? I have a friend looking to complete her PPL in a Super Decathlon but is having trouble finding an instructor.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Re: Flight Test in a US registered Aircraft
I'm happier in Florida, Texas or California tooReally, aerobatic airplanes are much happier in Florida,
Texas or California. Not Yellowknife

You would know better - but I think that any aerobatic training that happens in Canada is at best a 5 month seasonal venture.

Re: Flight Test in a US registered Aircraft
I may have access to a Pitts S2A this coming spring/summer Awesome! :D Yeah it is - there are far two few of these planes in Canada - I'm really lucky to have met the right people, at the right time. Thanks all of the help! I've been wanting to get out to CYSH to visit the Colonel for a while now -...

Flight Test in a US registered Aircraft
I may have access to a Pitts S2A this coming spring/summer and I'd love to complete my Class 2 Aerobatic Instructor rating. The problem is the Pitts is American registered. I know that to legally be PIC I need an FAA license (which I'm in the process of getting), but I'm wondering if it's possible t...

Training PPL on Canadian registered aircraft while in the US
A question for those who have much more experience with the finer details of the CARs than I do ... I have a student who owns their own aircraft, but would like to move it down south for the remainder of the winter. It is Canadian registered, and the student is training toward a PPL. Am I legally al...

Pump the throttle during start-up
I was taught that in some cases pumping the throttle just before engaging the mags can assist in starting the engine (specifically carbureted engines) - especially if you suspect a flooded engine as it is pushing air through the system and helping to get rid of some of the excess build-up of fuel. O...

Re: Class 3
I think I might be saying the same thing as the Colonel but in a different way ... I want to make sure my understanding of this is correct. If you get a partial (I.e. a fail) on one of your flight test recommends, but then complete a review of the failed exercise(s) and re-recommend the same student...

Re: Slow Flight Question (back side of power curve)
I know of one TC inspector that failed an initial class 4 candidate because she said that you could be in slow flight on approach ... His response was that you needed a nose-high attitude and high power setting to be in slow flight! Am I missing something? This sounds a bit like a story that got mu...

Re: Slow Flight Question (back side of power curve)
This is a great thread - I've seen a lot of misunderstanding from many of my colleagues about slow flight and its a bit scary to see the results. The one that drives me nuts is the typical answer to "how do you know you are in slow flight". Most students will say: "slow airspeed, stall horn, nose-hi...

Re: AeroCourse
I agree with pilotDAR ... I had completed an IFR groundschool a year or so prior to attending the course so I at least had some familiarity with the material, but I should have don't more review before the course. During the course they emphasized that you will either do some studying on your own be...

Re: Spin Training
Any competent instructor should be able to teach spin recognition and avoidance. This will obviously require demonstrating how the aircraft can depart controlled fight and how to recognize the spin entry and recover before a spin develops. Central to that is the importance of the student getting lo...

Re: Spin Training
Spins IMO have no real value in the PPL syllabus. To get into a spin in your average Cessna or Piper you have to be Stupid times three. At the risk of belabouring an already long post ... I generally agree with you BPF ... I think there is one important thing missing from your response above though...

Re: Good flight schools
A good flight school is important, but equally as important is the instructor. There are some good flight schools with not so great instructors (unfortunately it seems the larger the school, the more not so great instructors there are - maybe a gross generalization, but my experience none the less),...

Re: Spin Training
I suspect the polar moment of inertia (PMI) may have had more to do with it, than simply the C of G, which very well may have been within limits. Anyone that doesn't understand the difference between PMI and C of G, raise their hand. I'll raise my hand (never heard if the term before) ... But also ...

Taking two students during ab-initio training

Bose A20 for Aerobatics
I have had an introduction to aerobatics, and am beginning my aerobatics instructor rating in the spring. I noticed during my initial training that the mic boom on my Bose A20 would move down past my mouth making communications difficult during higher + G maneuvers (loops, hammerheads, etc.) Any sug...
