It would be a heck of an experience.
Flying the thing would be an experience. Sitting in a simulator reading emergency checklists isn't worth the bragging rights that will come with an asterisk.
Says you, Coolio. Lots of people think things are cool that you don’t.

Re: B747 Rating ?

Funny anyone would wonder why a guy might want this.

$20,000 is a lot of money, but Rolex doesn’t have any trouble whatsoever getting people to shell out the same or more for an obsolete, relatively inaccurate timepiece made out of base materials.

It would be a heck of an experience.

Re: Pilotless Plane Crash

If it flew for 20 mins with nobody in it, it was far better rigged than every small airplane I’ve flown. Too bad it wasn’t rigged just a little bit better. It could have circled up and to the left under torque, and then after running out of fuel, glided down in a slight right turn and landed right ...

" Severely" increases the PM's workload" Give me a break. "Severe"? Like he's got to look up from texting his hookups in town to make some standard calls, twiddle a couple knobs on the MCP a few times and put the gear down? I think people should be hand-flying approaches now and then. If being terri...

Re: Interesting Single Otter Accident

How is the window shattering at 140 relevant? Vne is 144 Maybe they meant knots, which would be 165 mph or so. I wish people would stop using statute miles in aviation. Also I thought VMo in a PT6 Otter was 118 knots. They stick a red line at the bottom of the old yellow arc. Or at least they used ...

Transport Canada is actually doing something? I wouldn’t be worried about being sued. It’s inconceivable they would be able to file the papers by the deadline.

Re: The Future

Hey, wait. I've got a new complaint. I am aware of the march of time and progress and blah blah blah. But I just want to say, this one time, that the drones and the drone people piss me off. The reason they piss me off is because I used to have a relaxing hobby. I was never a fanatic, but once in a ...

You guys should check out some of the job openings at the TSB. I hear they're looking for someone to work out who keeps stealing lunches from the staff-room 'fridge.

Re: Air Tindi Twin Otter Down

the other didn't fly at all after his PPC. That doesn’t make sense, training is too expensive for them to not try and get a return on it. Sure it does. It's a move that's as old as time. It's called "stealing a PPC". You get that all-important first job, quit when you get a PPC and then spend time ...

Sometimes I don't understand why being in opposition means you have to oppose everything the government does, instead of just supporting them when they actually make a sensible decision.
That's basically the problem with politics, in a nutshell.

Re: How long til $100k?

I'm at year 5 of commercial flying, and will see just over 100k base salary next year. I'm curious to know how long it took you to reach the 6 figure milestone in aviation. Some of us asked ourselves that question in 1986 , after more than 15 years as a professional pilot This is what makes this co...

I am on rookie pilot’s side. I really dislike the adverts that play after the safety demonstration on Air Canada. Before one of you asshat AvCanada combat specialists says “well you have a choice not to go on Air Canada”… no, I actually don’t. I’m travelling for work, and my airline makes me go on w...

You said you were considering a job “in aviation”..You could get a job as an accountant for an airline. In my experience, the office drones who are (let’s all just admit this now) there to serve the people who do all the actual work just LOVE to talk about how they are “In Aviation”. It makes them f...

Does Transport Canada even exist?

So, it's time to renew my license booklet. Downloaded the form, filled it out, got my passport photo taken. Off to the regional office to drop it off. The office is closed; sign on the door says it's open "by appointment only". Now, I've been on hold for like an hour, listening to the recording tell...

This is an interesting thread to watch. I've always been interested in aerial firefighting, since I was in college. Now, with approximately 25000 hours of mostly bush flying, a few thousand hours of 705 time too, I'm still kind of curious about it. I have some friends who made the switch from 705 fl...

Re: FAA Accepts Reliable Robotics' Certification Plans for Autonomous Flight Control System

I hope any professional pilot who helps these guys get through the "safe single pilot operation" phase of their project has a hard time getting work as a pilot once they move to the completely uncrewed phase. That way they can pioneer the next step too: being made redundant by machines.
