Re: Flying into USA

Any updates to changes post-Covid, or ADSB wise? The aircraft is not ADSB equipped, but the airport I am delivering to is Class D and not under a Class C veil, and I won’t need to transit any ADSB airspace as far as I can tell. -Anti ->Stay below 10000ft, avoid class A, class B (and above), class C...

Re: Logging hours outside of Canada

What you probably want is: https://www.law.cornell.edu/cfr/text/14/61.75
This is a US certificate issued on the basis of your Canadian PPL, and remains valid so long as you maintain your Canadian PPL + medical. Process to get it is a paperwork exercise (but will take a few months)

Re: Mode C Transponder Error Tolerance

There isn't such a spec, but there are related specs. In the altimeter setting region (probably where you are asking about), your altimeter is meant to display your altitude AMSL, using the nearest altimeter setting. This is handy, as it allows you to determine how high you are relative to the groun...

If they were ADS-B Out Diversity equipped, Spaced based ADS-B ( Aireon ) ought to have coverage able to track them. No idea if they were equipped though. Hoping for a positive outcome.

Re: Instrument rating credit for CPL

Personally I would interpret it to mean that the applicant can count the instrument rating as 20 hours of instrument time towards all applicable requirements under 421.30(4). So, assuming a fresh PPL with IR decides to begin training for CPL, they immediately have 20 of their 421.30(4) hour requirem...

Re: Getting back into flying - Canadian licence in USA?

Can I send that AC 8060 form "Verification of authenticity of foreign licence..." without having first renewed my canadian aviation booklet + medical ? No, for the booklet. Canadian medical may be expired if you have a current FAA Medical. From the verification letter: The Airmen Certification Bran...

Re: FAA IR to TC IR Conversion TC Problem - Help!

I agree with photofly, this is an uncommon (but not impossible) FAA configuration. If you added a FAA IR to your 61.75 cert, then you should have two phrases on the certificate: - "Issued on the basis of and valid only when accompanied by Canada Pilot License...", and - "U.S. Test Passed" (related t...

Re: License document class and ratings

Correct on both. See the last page of the booklet for abbreviations (combine "SME", "L", and "S").

A night rating is added as an additional line below the Class/Classe: SMELS as follows: "Night/Nuit" This does not appear on Commercial and up due to night being included by default on those.

See the Advisory Circular on the topic: https://www.tc.gc.ca/en/services/aviati ... 0-007.html
Basically you need a CPL unless you own both the farm and aircraft (or parts thereof within 25nm).

Re: Validating FAA medical to TC

Agree with PostmasterGeneral - there's no ability to get a Canadian Medical based on any other country medical. The Transport Canada medical must be done by a CAME: https://wwwapps.tc.gc.ca/Saf-Sec-Sur/2/CAME-MEAC/l.aspx . However, if you're not living in Canada, Transport Canada will allow any Avia...

Re: Cat1 Medicals for International Students

Best approach is continue following up with TC. You have an email stating they will send it by end of April 2020. It's been a month and you haven't received it, so get them to confirm they did send it as promised. Then take it from there. Occasionally something gets stuck in the process and asking a...

No idea, but it's reasonable given the situation in New Brunswick. They have handled covid-19 exceedingly well and it's virtually eliminated in the province: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/COVID-19_pandemic_in_New_Brunswick . No reason to keep things locked down when the virus is contained/nearly eli...

If I were you, I'd get the (FLVC) (see https://www.harvsair.com/course/foreign-pilot-licence-conversion/ ). as a temporary measure. Then use that to get your PIC time (per the Canadian definition), training time, and get familiar with any Canadian rules that are different. You may be able to convinc...

Which country? Transport Canada has special conversion procedures for some countries. For example to convert a FAA cert, follow this: https://www.tc.gc.ca/en/services/aviation/reference-centre/advisory-circulars/ac-401-001.html#toc62 . Requirements are adapted to recognize you already have a foreign...

indieadventurer: I understand your link indicates that a number of circling minima are being removed from approaches. I would agree that you can't circle to land for an approach that doesn't include circling minima. (Unless, of course, you break out in VFR conditions, cancel IFR, and join the VFR ci...

Re: ECG and Cat 3 medical?

Yes. However there are some fine points: You still have a Cat 1 medical; your category does not change unless you get a new medical. However, CAR 404.04 6.3 ( https://laws-lois.justice.gc.ca/eng/regulations/sor-96-433/page-51.html ) states: (6.3) The holder of a commercial pilot licence or an airlin...

Re: Single IFR vs Multi vs Multi IFR

If you do your IFR ride (flight test or IPC) in a single engine aircraft, you get a group 3 (single engine) instrument rating. If you do it in a mult engine aircraft, you get a group 1 (multi engine + single engine) instrument rating. However, you have to be able to fly a multi-engine aircraft (pass...
