Re: Commuting Policy

We actually do have a section on Commuting in our CA. I won't post it here. The general guidance is you have to show up at check in for your pairing fit to fly. There is guidance for both parties if a check-in time is missed. Yes- you could lose the credit, but the goal is to try and get you back on...

Re: Air Canada vs WestJet

An interesting topic indeed and an even more interesting "dilemma". Many of us (myself included) were NOT offered jobs at both carriers. I applied at AC and got PFO'd (apparently the polite one where you're in a pool or something and should reapply- but I digress). WJ offered me a job in 2007 after ...

Re: Agreement in Principle reached

I might have missed this in the 10 pages, but I don’t think people are considering the lower MMG at US carriers like Delta. I believe Delta is 65 hours WJ currently is 77.5 hours So in theory- a Delta Pilot earns a higher hourly rate- but the MMG is lower, whereas the WJ hourly rate (may be)is lower...

Re: AIP is dogshit

For 2022- my T4 was over 270,000. But I paid nearly 89,000 in income tax and that's with doing 20% (NRRSP/RRSP). For years, we've been saying that it's not WHAT we get paid......it's HOW we get paid. If you made $270k and only paid $89k in tax then you got a good deal. You must be living in AB. The...

Re: AIP is dogshit

Long time lurker, first time poster in these WJ specific threads (i think). I've been at WJ for just over 15 years. Long time commuter and a family man. I'll be the first to tell you that I don't consider myself contract savvy. I don't have other carriers contracts in my ipad and memorized on a whim...

Re: Tail deliveries for 2019

Max 7’s and 10’s in a few years will be interesting. I’m surprised so many 7’s are being considered.... I suspect those might change.

Tail deliveries for 2019

I couldn’t find this here in another thread.

How many Max tails and 787 tails are expected by the end of 2019?

Re: Union Vote 22 July - 05 Aug

The saddest part here isn't that the vote went No or even Yes. The saddest part is that 55 said No while 45 said Yes. This is a split- and shows that the pilot group is quite divided.

Now is the time for the pilot group to unite. How- that is the real question

Re: 737 headset

I started with the telex 750, then went to the 850..... unfortunately one of the jacks failed and it was past warranty. I decided to do some shopping around. I eventually decided upon the David Clark Pro X. I'm very happy with it. I get approximately 50 hours out of the batteries. The noise cancelli...

Re: Encore gets one list and a new pay scale.

Hi Guys, Just off on a few holidays but just reading the ol' av canada. What I can say wrt to the flow is yes, you can't flow a lot when you are still growing fast. Encore is extremely aggressive with growth right now. Having said that, we (WJ) are striving for 100% flow. As Encore matures it will ...

Re: Information Sessions - College of Pilots of Canada

For those of you with any doubts or concerns, have you thought of attending one of these informations sessions? The presentation is quite good, quite thorough and the College is not afraid to take your questions. The College is still very much in the early stages. However, we have a great group of v...

Re: College of Pilots

I am renewing! I am proud to be a member. I think it is absolutely ignorant to expect this grassroots organization to immediately have any impact on the Canadian aviation landscape. What the college needs is not only support from membership but also people to step up and volunteer and help. I signed...

According to the info we should expect ports to close.

As a porter- I am disappointed by this- I truly believe we can still make them work- but it's too early to tell what is in store.

Re: Encore WACON released and surprise, it sucks

I'll play the role of Devil's Advocate here (sort of): 1) What is the real issue here- Encore has released wage info (for the first year, I might add- who knows what the pay scale is beyond that) and no one likes it? Guess what? This unfortunately is aviation and not unique to Encore. Whether we lik...

Re: Ice Pilots Started

I might be spoiling it for some.... Lets say... Early February a left seat Electra PPC that had only 2.9 dedicated training before the PPC. A PPC at the time, that if I didn't take it, there could possibly be no crew for the airplane for any work that would come up. My commercial flying career star...

Re: Ice Pilots Started

Just watched last night's episode where Andrew leaves for Cathay. During the show the one scene that really upset me most was how Mikey McBrian's sister (i think) treated the new 'rampie'. To me, that was completely unprofessional and sends a terrible message. Whether or not it was supposed to be fu...

Re: Airfares will be slashed in half: WestJet CEO

Fair enough- all interesting points both sides- but I think an equal amount of time or discussion should be given to discussing how more and more Canadians are going south of the border to fly. Why is this? Every newspaper article cites higher fares in Canada- but so much of the higher fare is from ...

I have met and flown with both. I flew a couple of years ago with a captain who came from AC to WJ- however, they were flying at Zip. They were happy they made the switch. I also knew of one FO, who several years ago went from WJ to AC- my understanding was that there was a family connection at AC. ...
