Re: How to certify an electronic logbook?
Print it out and get the required parties to sign. Yup, what they said. The respective people will stamp and sign something along the lines of "all flights in C-XXXX, C-XXXX, and C-XXXX are correct and true" And they'll sign next to it. This is just an example, doesn't have to follow that format.

Re: TC to FAA Conversion
As a Canadian citizen, do I need some sort of visa to go across the border to do this exam? Nope. Your Canadian passport is the only document you need. Be sure to bring at least TWO government IDs to write your exams. One needs your current address on it. So passport and driver's license is suffici...

Re: Whats the best headset to get
Check out your friends' or colleagues' headsets and ask to borrow them for a flight. See how they work out for you. That's how I got convinced to go the Bose route, and had two buddies do the same when they borrowed mine. But try them out because some may fit better than others for your head and ears.

Re: First Day as a new First Officer
Being at the PPL level, you still have a lot to learn. Don't worry if you feel unprepared right now, it's normal. You'll learn a lot during your CPL, CPL time building phase, multi-IFR, and IATRA studies (or instructor rating). Your company will give you supplemental training after you are hired. Th...

Re: DHC6 autofeather
My thoughts on this would be, According to the Viking AFM for the 300's a single engine go-around must not be conducted once more than flap 10 has been selected. A normal landing is between considered between flap 20-37.5 . 3 things need to happen to activate the AFX system a) its turned on b) torq...

Re: First Conviction for Unsafe Drone Operation in Canada!
I saw some moron testing out his drone on the roof parking lot of Richmond Center the other day. I went up to him and tried to politely inform him that it's against the law but I got told to "@#$! off." Call the RCMP! Yup, call the cops IMMEDIATELY. Then, give the cops the CARs reference and your g...

DHC6 autofeather
Question: have a pretty big debate with some colleagues:
How come, on the twin otter, the autofeather system is not armed on the approach part of flight. Would it not be usefull duing a go-around? Can’t find anything in the POH.

Re: Tie Down etiquette at a new airport.
Best thing is to call the place up and ask. Give them a heads up that you'll be coming in and transiting for the day or staying overnight. Busy places appreciate the heads up, allows them to prep a tie down or parking spot. Also, many GA friendly airports often waive the ramp fee or even 1st night t...

In regards to the float training: if you fo your training in the Ottawa area. Lake Country Airways sends a 172 on floats up there during the summer. Ask the Ottawa Flying Club or LCA directly for more info. OFC has lots of students that do theirs with LCA during the summer. Their insteuctors also te...

Re: Jumpseating for real
Except airline pilots in the states can sit in the actual jumpseat on airlines that aren't the ones they work for And they get much better travel beneifts. To the Op, it's all about security. That's in the company and the authorities' point of view. It is the first time I hear of some random guy ju...

Re: Handling of power on take off and landing.
Some company SOPs, mainly overseas like the Caribbean some African operators are those that come to mind, have both hands on yoke after power was advanced to XX % NG or whatever initial setting they used. The captain would then set the power and guard the powers. If the captain was PF, he would guar...

One of the best things I was told when I got my first job (C206 on wheels) was go everywhere at 300-500 feet well the weather was clear, then when you get the first shit weather day it is not surprising to you to be that low and it looks formiluar. try a 180 deg turn, try flaps 20 slowed down BEFOR...

Re: Things learned in the real world
I remember being warned about being "pushed" or otherwise convinced to do sketchy things by all these unscrupulous owners and cowboy coworkers. Took me a few years but finally realized the only one doing the "pushing" was me. Self discipline to maintain my own standards in the face of my own need t...
