Re: SkyLink pilot union takes pay cut & b scale

Is Skylink actually getting pilots to apply ? Carson is offering up to 115,000 for Metro Captains, why would anyone apply for literally close to half the money ?

I could maybe get it if there is no bond and the job is a holding pattern until you get a real job, but that is not the case.

Re: Poor service

I feel for the controllers as they are so short handed they have continually have too much to do in too much airspace. The one little bit of good news is since Nav Canada is run by and for the airlines and when ATC delays affect their bottom line they care. Apparently they are putting a lot of press...

Re: PGI instructing (always wondered?)

PDM = Pilot Decision Making also sometimes called ADM, Aviation Decision Making I have a PDM example in every lesson. Some PGI's, like short field landings are 80 % PDM. A short field landing is just like every other landing, however the decision around whether or not you should be landing, whether ...

Re: Flight Test Recommendations

I assume you're a class 4 instructor and have done 5 of the last 10 hours. If so, yes it counts. Since failing the partial resulted in the requirement for a full flight test your recommendation counts as a first time pass, subject to the hours requirement referenced by Bede. I assuming the OP is a ...

Re: Metro 3 ( dangerous as they say it is )

King Air 100 has a worse accident rate than the Metro series. It’s not the airplane that is dangerous it is the operator

I will squawk 7600 and then since I have the ACC in my cell phone contacts. If I lose comms I will phone them and sort this out.
Where did you find an AME to rectify the 59 snags you found during the ferry flight you described?
The owner wanted me to snag everything I saw. Almost all of the snags were not flight critical like wet carpet in the nose baggage bay, a rip in the cabin carpet, leaking vent window e...

Re: Ferry piston aircrafts across Canada

The 300 mile CPL cross country should be approved by the students instructor, especially if the airplane is a flight school rental. It will be on a clear and a million day to the same places everybody goes to. Ferry flights don’t give you the luxury of waiting for perfect, you will use your experien...

Re: Ferry piston aircrafts across Canada

Risk is dependent, how long has the a/c been sitting, was it well maintained. WX is it's own risk, you have to be willing to say it's not happening today whether it's IFR with no suitable alternate in rate or VFR through the passes. 200 hour brand new CPL’s are going to pretty much by definition no...

Re: Ferry piston aircrafts across Canada

Ferry flying is not a job for low time pilots. Based on your previous posts you do not have the experience to do this kind of work. My last ferry flight was a trans Canada delivery of a Cessna 421. When I made it to the West Coast I presented the new owner with a 59 item snag list.

Re: Attitude Indicator vs Artificial Horizon

The only thing I care about is whether it has a roll pointer or sky pointer. The original Chinese AI in my Nanchang has color coding opposite to what Western units have. The blue is on the bottom and the brown is on the top. I have never been able to find an explanation as to why this is. Anybody go...

Re: Typical IFR training

My 02 cents 1) You have to have the knobology down cold particularly with the older GPS’s like the Garmin 430/530 system. Buy a good manual ( I like the pilot workshops.com manual), download the free Garmin sim and practice using every function. 2) Using a home sim is good to practice what you were ...

Personally I don’t see everyone surviving in the current market. The million(s) dollar question is given the geographical realities of Canada and the enormous government imposed overhead costs, is it even possible for a pure ULCC to exist in Canada

Re: Flight Instructor Rating waitlists

Paying more won’t fix the instructor shortage as the majority of instructors want to go to an airline or corporate job. Instructing isn’t a viable career because the entry barriers are so low. When a 231 hr total time brand new instructor can teach the CPL or ME/IFR course there is no incentive to m...

Re: Flight Instructor Rating waitlists

Unless you are an aviation college graduate with a tie to a regional operator there does not seem to be very many jobs for 200 hr CPL's, at least here on the West Coast. The old days when there was a ton of Navajo operators who were hiring new guys in the right seat are long gone. I am hearing that ...
