Re: Porter Interview Questions

From what I know about the interview not much has changed. They ask a few personal questions about how you got into aviation, why you think Porter should hire you, and what makes you a better choice than other candidates. If you have some work experience they will ask you the typical “tell me about ...

Re: Who is hiring and when?

Hiring and ground school dates are two very different things. All airlines are accepting resumes and running candidates through the hiring process. AC is currently staffing their ground schools with people who have applied up to 1yr ago. Sunwing was accepting resumes in the spring for fall classes. ...

Re: Junior Captain Pay/Lifestyle Questions

12 gdo’s a month. No single days of reserve as the software won’t let you bid that. I’d also add that as a DEC as people in the company upgrade you won’t move up the list as Porter reserves a spot in seniority. So as a DEC you will stay at the bottom for a while. You will however collect a bigger pa...

Re: CYTZ Porter Parking fees

It's a run-up facility for maintenance. Directs the noise and jet blast up to keep the neghbours happier. As for the parking fees; if you don't like them, park at the other downtown airport.

The Bose struggled to keep up with the Otter. I'd suggest starting with a DC and then once you've made some money I highly recommend the Bose A20

Re: Ottawa Aviation Services - iATPL

Just keep in mind an interview does not mean a job offer. The right question to ask is how many people have been offered a job at those regional airlines upon completion of their program. I unfortunately do not have those numbers.

Weird that the GS would start on Labour Day...

Offers have just started to go out for Sept 12th GS and I don't believe they have a date for the Oct GS yet.

Re: Dumb Things You've Seen Today

The guy taxiing the Norseman was probably letting the engine temps come up; which is not dumb, unless you want to cause premature engine wear. As for the tents, yes it may be dumb to put them on without a heat source but pilots generally aren't the ones making the rules, and when it's someone else's...

Re: Algonquin 2 Year aviation program!?

I would really look into Sault College and Confederation College. They are of longer duration but the flight training is subsidized. Algonquin College you say is $58K, that a lot of money over 2 years. Sault College is regular college tuition (I'm guessing about $3000/semester; 7 semesters) Confed i...

Re: Dock vs. Ramp First Job

The companies listed above more than likely have open pilot policies. Those are policies that are more expensive but allow companies to have low time guys in the left seat when the chief pilot deems them competent.

Re: Time to Complete Instrument Rating?

Depending how much instrument time you currently have and how proficient you are you can normally get it done in a week if you go full tilt. Jobs are out there for those who look hard for them. Chances are as your first job you won't be flying MIFR. That's not to say it's impossible. The month to co...

I definitely recommend Cornwall Aviation for training. They were very professional and work on your schedule. If upgrading or renewing they can accommodate you on short notice. You also won't experience the airplane going down for maintenance for weeks at a time as they have 3 seminoles available en...

There is a bus that also comes to the terminal and will take you to Sydney. Get off at the Mactavish Park n Ride and then catch the bus to Victoria. The walk from the terminal is about 30min to Mactavish. Hope this helps.

Re: Transwest Ramp vs Perimeter Ramp

Every job is different to everyone else. Much like buying a car. If two people buy the car for the same price one might feel ripped off and the other thinks it's the steal of the century. Working the ramp is the same. Some will love it and others will hate it. Working the ramp is an entry level job....

Re: Flight Instructor or Multi-IFR?

Most float hiring happens in the spring but occasionally companies hire throughout the summer as people leave randomly or go back to school in Aug/Sept and the operators need to replace them.

As for the 50hr course, I cannot speak of it as I did not do it. I was hired with 15hrs float.
