Instead of "avoid" I would maybe say "minimize" as there are always departure delays on the 33s.There won't likely be more then 6 arrivals per hour on 33R to avoid departure delays.

Not really my area but if you're inbound to YYZ you'll probably get descent from 8000 at about 25 miles out on a straight-in. When coming from elsewhere you can expect to leave 8000 when abeam the airport on the downwind. Depending on traffic you'll have a minimum of about 22-25 miles left. The actu...

The weather took a nasty turn with fog and a low ceiling during the afternoon. RVR was as low as 900 feet. Aircraft were missing the approach to 24R and we ended up CAT3 approaches on 06L with a tailwind. Arrival spacing was 15 miles. Numerous diversions including ACA016 to YHM. Rapid improvement at...

I don't know when it started but it is permissable in both VFR and IFR weather. In IFR the staggered spacing must be 1.5 miles, therefore 3 in trail for the same runway. In VFR almost anything goes, just no overtakes. Normally offloads to 33R are limited to 6 an hour so as not to impact the departur...

babybus The number of VNAP-As is way outnumbered by the Bs, so your/YVR's idea would be counter-productive and be less likely to succeed here. At a time when we want you to go as fast as possible to get the 3 miles as quick as possible, the VNAP-As do cause a slight delay to the next departure altho...

babybus I don't "do" arrivals but I'll try and explain. Runway assignments: from the east (YSO) on the 24s your "normal" runway would be 23. There are times when there is a need to balance the traffic on each runway and so you would be given the switch on a tactical basis to 24R. If that need change...

To quote the title of another thread, we have "resource" issues. We don't always have staff available to operate in this 3 runway configuration. When we do have just enough staff we can "triple" for a couple of hours. This is why there seems to be no pattern. We try and time it so we're in this conf...

jonathan There are a lot of people higher up making decisions that we have to make happen on the field. Everything is closely coordinated so nobody is left out of the loop. PA31 Driver Like I said in my answer to your question, there's not much difference between the distance from the west side of t...

When we use one runway for arrivals and another for departures we normally land 24R and depart 23 or land 05 and depart 06L. This actually reduces the average taxi distance rather than increase it. If you landed everything on 23 the traffic destined for T2 would have to taxi about 4 miles. The longe...

The 15Kt crosswind limit for wet runways does not apply if the runways become contaminated (30% or more of the surface). If this occurs we have to use the most in to wind runways. If the wind was 100-110 then that leaves no option but use the 15s. 45 degrees added to the QDM for the 06s (057) = 102 ...

so with the investment of better radar, some more training, and a few more controllers, PRM approaches could easily be set up in CYYZ. Granola, you're a very funny man! We have a standing order at "Controllers r Us" but they say they've been let down by their supplier. Seriously though, we can alre...

mstram It has nothing to do with the capabilities of the 15s. If the crosswind component on any runway or combination of runways exceeds 25Kt dry or 15Kt wet, or 15Kt when the vis is less than a mile, then we must change to a more into wind runway or combination. Your example just happened to requir...

TJ Thare are a few areas where signage could be improved. The GTAA are made aware of inadequacies and its up to them to make the improvements. oldtimer HIRO is in operatation most of the day and is advertised on the ATIS. The high speed exits have design speeds of 35Kt and over. Its unusual to see t...

mstram The only runway that is certified for Cat2/3 arrivals is 06L. 05 will be upgraded in due course and the work to achieve this has been the reason for the endless closures of that runway over the last 2 years or so. To use both 15s for arriving and departing is a rare event and one not for low ...

Apron Advisory do not give "clearances" but you should not enter the ramp without having spoken to them. What they say may sound like a clearance but they are not a control authority, just advisors. Maybe a slip of the tongue on ground's part as our limit of control is the ramp entrance at EA and no...

Its noticeable that you all want something published. So today I have contacted my manager and he will raise the issue in the very near future and hopefully progress will be made. Do you ground guys realize that the most complicated part of a pilot's job can be getting to the gate after we land? Yes...

Well that went downhill in a heartbeat didn't it? The impression I get from reading your first post is that you believe all pilots are wrong to change frequencies before being told, while taxiing at airports. That's not the impression I was trying to give at all. I am well aware of silent frequency ...

170 to xray The use of 06R/24L in conjunction with the other 2 east-west parallels (tripling) requires the use of 2 extra controllers. One is a monitor for the south tower controller there to ensure correct readbacks of instructions and compliance with them. The other is the 3rd ground for reasons I...

Kurwa, The tower would only be "looking for you" if they had the data sent to them by ground, otherwise he wouldn't know who you were. Did you miss a frequency change maybe? I don't advocate guessing the frequency as there's a chance you'll get it wrong and that doesn't help at all. Just a polite re...
