Re: Foreign Pilots flying in Canada
Does this mean that because the foreigners are mostly gone home now that AT have these 17 recalled? Of course not. AT have contracted out their B737-800 flying to CanJet who also have foreigners flying their aircraft BUT WITHOUT reciprocation. AT has recalled everyone in January and hired even more...

Re: Petition against the practice of Temporary Foreign Pilot
I've read plenty about the issue. More "foreigners" are coming to Canada than other countries will let in. Blah, blah, blah. I just find it ironic how everyone seems to be all for the efficient movement of labour and capital (free trade) until their personal interests are at stake. At that point it...

Re: Petition against the practice of Temporary Foreign Pilot
I agree with you Gilles it should be a 1 for 1 reciprocal deal but do you want to see how fast I shoot down your argument as devils advocate? Sunwing is it true you hired 200 foreign pilots this winter? Yes but because of those 200 we we able to create 700 jobs for Canadians. Ok, well done. Your lo...

Re: Sunwing- Hiring Pilots from Germany
This issue about the RAIC really seems to annoy you as you've mentioned it several times in several threads. Everything about Sunwing's and Canjet's way of exploiting the loopholes in the programs, along with the unashamed help of our Government, annoys us. Unfortunately, it seems that we have to k...

Re: Sunwing Adds To Fleet
Lower Cost often means a more profitable organization. A profitable organization means job security and more jobs. I have seen and lived through aviation at its worst... It's not perfect, but Sunwing is far from aviation at its worst. Sunwing has weathered some potentially lethal financial storms a...

Re: Sunwing Adds To Fleet
Hey Gilles, you do realize your company was the first to bring over foreign pilots without reciprocal agreements through CJ? (Who do you think they got the idea from??? Certainly not AT! CJ is its own company, Group Transat has nothing to do except that it buys seats from CJ, so whatever CJ decides...

It may not be evident at WJ now but I would be careful to pontificate that it would never happen. LOU's are not worth the paper their printed on these days. It would be foolish to think otherwise. :smt038 on your whole post 727driver BTW, I don't know if any of you had a chance to read the article ...

Re: Sunwing Adds a New Twist on Foreign Pilots
Canada is the only G8 country in which pilots don't have job protection. Other countries, in their wording, use the term "qualifiable" instead of "qualified"... So, in those countries, no foreign pilot is allowed to work there until ALL qualifiable pilots have jobs. This is the kind of protection we...

Re: Sunwing at it again!
The big picture is that if a business does not return the cost of capital, it is not a business and is not sustainable. The bigger picture is that folks are still expecting to pay 1975 fares for their airline tickets and some companies are willingly caving in to that nonsense... but in order to mak...

I am glad you mentioned inflation at the end...In the 1960s, 150k , after tax bought a pretty nice hourse. Now a 150k (at a higher tax rate) is hardly a downpayment on a house....Inflation has a very eroding effect on numbers. Perhaps rework your numbers in 1960 dollars, and see what the average ai...

It doesn't matter if its Sunwing, WestJet, Air Canada, Jazz, Canjet or Transat ... no foreign pilots ... period. ...Or Canadian pilot jobs, on Canadian soil going to foreign workers? But this time I see the issue spread across the entire piloting profession in Canada and the future implications it will have on our jobs. And it doesn't matter where you work or who you work for nor what tier. It's time to stand as a group of professionals (if that's what we consider ourselves) an...

We hate when people say we are just glorified bus drivers. But we truly are. You gotta be kidding, right?
