Re: Ex Military AVN to AME-M
I hope you are aware that Transport Canada airworthiness inspectors have maintenance policy letters and staff instructions to access your Canadian military training and experience and skill in assessing against the civilian standard. Not sure what that has to do with the questions I asked, but yes....

Re: Ex Military AVN to AME-M
As you posted, you must have Transport Canada Approved basic training. The ICS Canada Aircraft Mechanic course meets this requirement. Your Military time can be credited towards your license, and if you still work with anyone who supervised your work, you can get them to sign your logbook. You will ...

The only way to get DEC at Flair is to have camel jockey time.

I use a broker for my insurance. Shop around, there are options. My current insurance is from a company in South Africa. ARC.

Yeah, math wasn't adding up for me either, unless he/she is doing nothing but working. The rates are nothing extraordinary so the quarter mil+ annual incomes reek of bullshit. Trying to impress, lol, Whoever heard of a hero in aircraft maintenance... Yup, only to someone like you who can't re...

Re: Top Paid AMEs
Maybe the math doesn't work because you don't understand the difference between billed and earned. You obviously don't own a company and do contract work. I would say some here really don't understand the math. If they read my post they would understand that each contract is different and I get pai...

Re: Ame overseas rotations
Or lots of experience? Most of the headhunters look for people with the EASA but if you have experience they will hire those without the EASA. Check Samco. They are always looking.

Re: What do you do when you think someone should never fly again?
Over 500hrs just to get their PPL and this was after being told by more than one flight school to find a new occupation. The germanwings pilot who committed suicide but decided to do it in a fully loaded aircraft did not report his suicidal tendencies to the airline BUT one would imagine that MANY ...

Re: What do you do when you think someone should never fly again?
Like I said, hyperbole. Stop looking for validation here and either do what’s required or stop whining. The very fact that it’s a question tells me that it’s not serious. I posted the topic because this person has just been hired by a new company and I would never recommend this person ever step fo...

Re: Top Paid AMEs
What is your hourly contracting rate? What companies have accepted that as a contracting rate? What extras do you get on top of your contracting rate? (per diem and lodging)? Thanks for the info! My minimum hourly rate is $50hr but usually more around the $55-60 range. I also do daily rates dependi...

Re: What do you do when you think someone should never fly again?
I think the schools and hospitals would be more likely to collapse due to an incompetent contractor/construction crew than an incompetent pilot who happens to hit that particular building. Well depends on the size of aircraft, and this person is flying 705 category aircraft. Even a small one will m...

Re: Top Paid AMEs
Many companies are now hiring contractors to make up the difference in staffing. I've been contracting for about 15yrs. Last year I billed out over $250,000 between 3 companies. This year so far I've billed out $175,000. Now despite billing out this amount, it does not exactly equate to my actual sa...

Looking to purchase access to TPE331-10T-512K manuals
As the thread topic says, I am looking to purchase access to the TPE331-10T-512K manuals. I work with a company that is doing some short term work on an aircraft with this engine and the Honeywell or ATP subscription is more than the cost of the project. So if I could purchase access to a current co...

Re: What do you do when you think someone should never fly again?
BCnomad, I have a sneaky suspicion that this "person" is a female but due to political correctness, I guess we can never say ? Bingo, you win the prize. So now we get a bit of an understanding of why this individual may have been given some preferential treatment to gain the hours they have. I have...

Re: What do you do when you think someone should never fly again?
The total irony here that, over the years I have had such input from other captains about a particular pilot. I also have flown with the F/O they are telling me and saying that the guy should never be allowed in and aircraft. I did not have an issue and the person(s) in question was able to functio...

Re: What do you do when you think someone should never fly again?
Nobody ever took the time to teach him. Do you know what we're doing here? Do you know what our next step needs to be? What are the hazards of what you're doing right now? With some there is no way to teach. Trust me, if you fly with the person I'm posting about, you will understand. It will be a r...

Re: What do you do when you think someone should never fly again?
trust me someone in mgmt will know, and they will brush it under the carpet...... because if the front seats aren't filled it isn't going anywhere I suspect with much of this person's experience, it has been just to ensure there was a warm body in the copilot seat. As to other questions, yes I did ...

Re: The good, the bad, and the ugly of aircraft maintenance
My colleague and I worked the late shift, finished up a gearbox change, and then went back to our compound for a bedtime beer. About one sip into the beer and we both turn to each other and ask if either of us had replaced the cowl. Back into the car, 30 min drive back to the airport just to see tha...

What do you do when you think someone should never fly again?
I recently worked with a copilot that was by far the most incompetent person I have ever had the misfortune of working with. Utterly terrible at flying, had no idea what they were doing, and despite having over 2200hrs in flight time, I think most of it was spent being told to sit down and don't tou...
