Re: Failure of T-Bar Control Column in Cherokee on Approach
Countryman, Congratulations on finding another piece that's confirmed to be in good shape. I'm fairly certain the second set of pictures shows the UV dye penetrant test. As the name suggests, the liquid is applied to the piece being examined and then excess wiped off. A UV light source will show whe...

Re: Failure of T-Bar Control Column in Cherokee on Approach
Depending on how difficult it is to access the area of the T-bar weld while still installed, I think it may be possible to do a UV penetrant dye test. Any cracking would be apparent immediately, and would justify the expense involved to remove and replace the part. From the first group of pictures p...

Upfront, I will say that I do not agree with anyone being drunk, stoned, whatever at work. You're dangerous, and you're an idiot. No sympathy from me it you're caught, even less if you're responsible for someone else being injured, or worse. I agree with what dirtdr has to say. I work in the oil & g...

Gawd, what a pilot. I would say she was having fun... If she trained as a gymnast, or trampoline, that would give her a huge edge over most acrobatics pilots. She is used to the tumbling, and knowing where her body is in relation to the ground. She is just doing it in an airplane now. No wonder she ...

Re: "Any conflicting traffic..." Is A Stupid Thing To Say
Here's my $0.02 on ACTPA. You can say what you like because you're not going to hurt my feelings at all. Since I've only done ground school and no flight training, I maybe don't deserve to say anything. I'm sure ACTPA is annoying. I'd liken it to fingernails on a blackboard if I had to hear it on th...

In a certified design, this would not have been permitted. I see quite a lot of work to change those plastic blocks when they wear, and they certain...

I've only found out today that the student pilot killed in the accident was my next-door neighbour. I did not recognize his name, as I've always know him simply as MJ. I also didn't clue in when I read his parents were holding out hope of his survival because he knew how to jump from airplanes. A fo...

OK I have to ask. Why are you blaming the guy in the boat when the pilot clearly screwed up...BIG TIME?? I'm not personally blaming the guy in the boat for anything. They were both at fault... No, I'm not an AME or Pilot (yet)... Would it matter if the camera was mounted on a detachable base that hooked over the bottom of the window and held in place by a couple of jig fixture knobs? The mount would not interfere with anything except, fully closing the window. You can also get a chest, or...

I would like to speak on behalf of all left-handed pilots when I say we are a proud people and do not consider ourselves inferior to our right-handed brethren. Inferior? Re: Female pilots and accidents
Just my thoughts on the subject... Female/male, doesn't really matter. You're a pilot. You've been through similar training, and have learned rote methods to take in a given situation. These methods are generally developed as a direct result of prior incidents/accidents. What is key, has to do with ...

And then, there are the people that say in various videos that it wasn't actual airplanes involved, but hint at some sort of reinforced drones. They base their arguments on test videos of planes being crashed. In one test, the jet was sliding across the ground and the right wing struck a wooden pole...

Even after 60 years, it seems the hierarchy of Captain/FO on the flight deck is still prevalent. Wasn't that one of the major contributing factors to the crash in San Fancisco?

Finally, the new airport is open for business
http://www.flyymm.com/ After a couple of years of construction, and far too many years of being in need of it, the new terminal at YMM is open for business. With an annual growth of 25% in 2013 alone, it was a necessary move. The old terminal will be used for cargo and private flights, so it's not g...
