Re: Whiteout in a Pilot Logbook
I've used whiteout on the odd entry, it looks fine, but I never submitted it to TC for my As. As for my As application, I printed my own made up excel logbook and signed every page like a logbook. Submitted the signed sheets plus a memory stick with the file and had my sticker within 5 weeks (sent t...

Re: Harder or easier (INRAT vs. the CPL written exam)
I found the CPL much harder because the scope of questions was very large whereas the INRAT, although a very detailed exam, is comprised of the theory in the AIM and the practical application of the CAP GEN over only 50 questions. I did the Aerocourse IFR seminar and it was absolutely fantastic. For...

It was always fun flying medevac into YWV and then doing the ol' immediate right turn-out on departure from 31.
Interesting looking plate. Thanks for bringing it up.

Well they just extended the Tutor to 2030... and it's already 50-55 years old - so, not surprised.

Re: Cross Country flights where (Upr Winds) FD's are not available.
Monitor your progress en route, update as needed. Ground speed/ETE/ETA, double track, opening/closing angles. All that fun stuff. Can't stress that enough. Flight plan your best guess but ultimately your nav log with updated GS and ETE/ETA will enable you to solve any upper wind errors to confirm y...

Re: how do you start a new logbook?
Identify it as logbook #2 or whatever it is and carry totals over. You can always right a remark in the first line stating this is Logbook #x and totals have been carried over.
It's your logbook, do as you wish.

Re: VFROTT Logging
The misunderstandings are compounded by the way the CARs are worded. For recency purposes you should keep track of instrument time. But the regulation that says what you need to record about a flight in a personal log says "whether IFR or VFR" and doesn't mention meteorological conditions. I think ...

Filing IFR with no alternate
I just wanted to seek clarification from the masses of AvCanada on the subject. It is my opinion that as a Canadian pilot flying a Canadian commercially registered aircraft for a company operating on a Canadian OC is required to file an alternate. I can only find two exceptions to the rule: CAR 604....

Re: ATPL Application
What has been said above is correct; you can self certify your hours and TC will still sign off your ATPL. What they do need, if you have SIC time in an aircraft that is certified single pilot, is a statement from your CP/Ops Mgr stating that your FO time was done using multi crew SOPs, etc. But on...

Aerobatics Manuals
Hi there,
I did a search of avcanada for aerobatic book recommendations but couldn't really find anything.
What would you recommend an ATPL holder and instructor read before I jump into the basics of aerobatics with an aerobatic instructor?

Re: Instructor rating or multi-IFR to be an airline pilot?
I had an instructional background in the army so it was natural for me to move in the flight instruction role following my transition out of the military. Instructing was a great way to solidify the basics and it did land my first FO gig because of my TT (no ramp time). The lower salary of instructi...

Also, adding another requirement of 'No partial flight-tests' Have to be full first time pass only. Which should also include no partial written exams either. First time score on CPAER only. Edit: Realized I said CPAER... I assumed fixed-wing. Is this open to CPL-H and CPL-A? Or in the future, will...
