Re: AI Future Effects on Aviation Industry.
To say that "AI" will replace pilots is somewhat of a misnomer. AI refers to a system able to perform tasks like perception, recognition and decision making. Higher-order things that are more abstract than comparing numbers in computer code. In aircraft, at a basic level anyway, we are not necessari...

Re: Sanders Geophysics (SGL)
Most of the posts here are from people who've never worked for the company so take their opinions with a grain of salt. I spent 6 years with SGL and it was probably the best company I've ever worked for. If you're looking for an entry level gig to bank tons of hours, look elsewhere. You'll fly 400-6...

Re: Voyageur Insulting Ad
As a Voyageur alumnus I can say the advertised pay is for FO pay on the domestic pay scale. To get the overseas rate, divide that salary by 365 to get a daily rate. Then multiply be 1.25x or 1.5x depending on location deployed. That's your daily rate in the field. Multiply that by 182 to get your an...

Re: Chief Pilot asked another airline to delay hiring me due to shortage?
I once did some recruiting work for an airline. We met with flight colleges and smaller operators to discuss their training and procedures and provided suggestions how to make their procedures more "705" so the graduates would have an easier time integrating into an airline once they got there. Ther...

Re: Freelance flight instructors in the Toronto area?
anthonyp, kudos to you on articulating your training goals before commencing your PPL. I shared some of your concerns, especially about consistency in aircraft and instructors, when I was doing my training. It sounds like you've made up your mind to go with a flight school which I'm sure will be a g...

Re: Vintage Propeller Question
And here is the second prop, stored in a garage so in worse shape unfortunately. I suspect this one is a little more "vintage" than the first. On one side of the hub is stamped: D633P.4-42 H.L.5106 JAN 43 On the other side of the hub: L-D.H.5220-2 GIPSY MAJOR [rest is illegible] Nothing appears to b...

Re: Vintage Propeller Question
Wow so much knowledge on this thread! I've got a couple of props and if anyone could kindly share any info on where they were made and from which aircraft, that would be amazing! First prop: Stored indoors, unfortunately tips are cut off. Sticker says "Prop Shop" Sensenich Brothers Main Plant Lancas...

Re: What's with the "circle check" before takeoff?
This happens at Burlington a lot. The problem is there really isn’t a proper run up bay for 32 which is the most used runway. So most people position their aircraft turned 45 degrees right, or toward the runway so as to avoid blasting prop wash toward other aircraft that may be behind. Runway 32 is...

Re: What's with the "circle check" before takeoff?
I’ve never heard of this practice, and it sounds dumb to me, but “don’t do this in a small plane ‘cos you can’t do this in a big plane” is a totally bogus argument. You can and should so tonnes of things in a small plane that you can’t do in something big. Third, you won't always be flying at uncon...

What's with the "circle check" before takeoff?
Hoping a FI can help me out understanding this. I was taxiing out for a flight at my local airport and came upon a flight school plane holding short with traffic on long final. The pilot began one of those "circle checks" where the aircraft taxis in a circle I guess to look for traffic in the circui...

Re: Pearson Overflight
Can easily arrange an overflight at YYZ by calling Terminal on the radio who will direct you. More often than not, it will be the 33s you can overfly as they typically use the 24s and 23. I did a flyover in the summer in a Cherokee may as well take advantage of the dead airspace. FYI that NOTAM appe...

82.5% YES 89% turnout Active pilots voted themselves a pay raise while 600 members are out of work and wondering where their next meal will come from. Disgusting. Huh? Let me explain. Pilots remaining employed after Sept 30th will now receive either 63 or 75 hours MBG. This represents an increment ...

Actually it's a continued pay cut for all but those in the first 4 years... But the scope lets might keep the 600 out a little longer......

Re: Aerocourse books shipped to ... Hong Kong!
I just checked the rate on the Canada Post website using approximate dimensions and weight and it comes to $72. Perhaps there's a bit of markup but it's not cheap to send packages overseas from Canada. Do you know anyone on a wide body aircraft that flies to Hong Kong? They could drop the books at t...

Why does everyone want to work at Air Canada?
Hi All I recently had the opportunity to apply to Air Canada and I'm having second thoughts. Why does working at AC continue to be the big goal for so many when it doesn't seem to offer as much compared to companies like Air Transat and Sunwing? It's clear the work/life balance is very generous once...
