Re: Would you buy a flying car?
Flying car concepts have always been around. Although with technology advances the idea is getting closer to market. The most impressive ones I've seen are the Maverick from ITEC, albeit not a speedster, and the 2 models from Terrafugia.

If the cloud deck forces you to stay in the valleys then stick with the VFR routes. If it's a bluebird day then get over the peaks and go direct.

Re: Happy National Aviation Day, kids!
I seriously doubt that high school kids would learn anything about real world aviation by working at Transport HQ. In fact it would probably discourage them from pursuing an aviation career.

Re: Raitt caves to the NIMBYs over aerodromes. Tell TC NOW!
Common courtesy is a whole lot different than a regulatory review with veto power. If someone builds a grass strip in the back 40 and the threshold is within a 1/4 mile of a neighbors house then they should definitely see if the neighbors have a problem with the noise, and maybe consider changing th...

Re: Project: Parkland Airport - West of Edmonton
How can the AAC say they don't want their tax dollars going towards the future operation of a tower at Parkland and yet they don't have any qualms about the Enoch using other people's tax dollars to finance a court case against PADC. Bunch of hypocrites. Indians using Canadian taxpayer dollars to tr...

That are not operating out of their temporary hanger? not yet, the proposed 2 week shutdown has become a 6 week plan with more possible pushbacks. From what I hear, everything is ready for the temp hangars to go up. They are just trying to sort out if they have to conform to provincial building cod...

Thomas Aircraft Maintenance is also relocating to Parkland from the muni. The flying club and Thomas Aircraft will be operating out of separate temporary hangars until permanent construction begins.

Re: Project: Parkland Airport - West of Edmonton
Wow. That was a really unbiased (read sarcasm) news report. With all the talk about crops being grown around an airport, it would be interesting to know how many documented cases there are of Transport coming in and telling a farmer he has to change his crop rotation. I would guess almost none. If t...

Re: Project: Parkland Airport - West of Edmonton
Most aircraft accidents and incidents at small airports do not involve fire. Unlike in the movies, airplanes don't erupt into flames every time they have a deadstick or wheels up landing. Any large accident involving fire and/or multiple aircraft would be the same as a major car accident on the high...

I agree, having an ATPL and flying small aircraft is a joke. Unfortunately that's the insurance regulated world we live in.

Re: Co-pilot time for ATPL
Wow, sounds like you've had some really bad co-pilots. Just FYI, not everyone is the same. Some pilots (both right AND left seat) are not worth the paper their licence is printed on. While others have an amazing amount of aptitude and skill.

Re: Co-pilot time for ATPL
Pilots with less experience will now qualify for the license. But number of hours is not always directly proportional to amount of experience. In some companies a co-joe is just there to take up space and satisfy insurance and/or operational requirements. They are told to shut up and not touch anyt...

Re: Co-pilot time for ATPL
Unfortunately, with insurance companies calling the shots these days, the ATPL has become an insurance requirement and not a measure of experience.
