Re: YYC or YEG base?

Should either become a base, expect an exodus of pilots from both CDN North/Flair over to Porter.

Re: Canadian North Layoffs

There is potentially about to be an exodus of 737 pilots from CDN North (FO's in particular) given the loss of charter/sked flying, layoffs and uncertain future direction under EIC. In the past year, a DFO, a CP and the VP of Flt Ops have all left 5T as well.

I'm thinking in a few years once the dust settles on this take over by EIC, watch for Calm Air's operation to be folded into Canadian North's.

The 737-800SF they have would be useful to a few "northern" airlines...if it becomes available.

67 pilots hired so far in 2023. That is an average of 22 per month. That will not keep up with attrition.
Of this # how many are hired on as DECs ?

Be interesting to see where Porter is sourcing the extra tails from....since deHavilland Canada is currently not manufacturing new Dash 8 400s at the moment.

Re: New hire bids

Employers don’t hate pilots. They need pilots. The planes cannot fly themselves (yet). What they hate is paying pilots what they are worth (market forces) and they hate negotiating with them unless all of the leverage is on their side of the table. 2023 is not the environment that managements prefe...

I thought nobody got temporarily relocated yet, although it could happen for the august bid. Not technically relocated but a nice 4 hour deadhead on each end of your pairing. Ok once in a while but gets old real fast. The writing is in the wall as far as YYC is concerned. It will be attrited down t...

From a friend working there...took several years post company merger (7F/5T) for both union shops (both ALPA) to agree to a merged seniority list, this was finally agreed to last fall, prior to this both sides were doing their own hiring (5T side onto the 737) (7F side onto the ATR) and neither side...
