Re: Air Transat Ascension Academy pathway program

I think a CAE ran program is going to be fantastic and your going to become a quality pilot coming out of the program. But anyone doing training in the US should be aware that parts of the program syllabus may or may not have 2 pilots logging PIC at the same time, allowable up to 50hrs I believe (pl...

Re: This can't be good for the industry...

It will be but a trickle, not even noticeable or worth taking to the union. 1. The immigration process takes minimum 12 months if you lucky - last time I checked, IRCC had 850k backlog and people are waiting 6+ months for visitors visas and 24 months for PR. Who can wait that long? Very few are wil...

Re: New pay scale Aug 1 Dash and E2

If it wasn’t for WJ ALPA recently signing a significant deal, including the elimination of swoop, I highly doubt that Porter would be comming to their pilots with this new benchmark. That’s why it’s called a benchmark. Typical Canadian pilots slamming other Canadian pilots. congrats to t...

Re: Backpain

The 737 has notoriously bad seats. There are various adjustments you can get out of the seat but the padding is firm foam and the sheepskin doesn't do much for comfort. When I first started flying the 37 a couple years ago I had back problems too. Especially the lower back and migrating to the mid ...

Backpain

Hi all, I cant tell if it’s me getting old or the new plane (737) but I’ve been getting increasingly bad back pain (left lower lumbar muscle). I’m seeing and doing physiotherapy… but in the meanwhile does anyone have suggestions for compact back braces or pillows for flight? Massively appreciated! B...

Re: CBC - A shortage of pilots is making travel chaos in Canada even worse

This low licensing narrative is very dangerous. Because it’s simply not true, and works against our pilot unions work at parliament hill. The reporter failed to include TC’s note on pilot statistics: * It should be noted that since March 2020, due to COVID, a number of exemptions have been issued ex...

That's what I thought, even though I really wished otherwise  Thanks for the reply!

Bed Bugs

Anyone have any experiences bringing them back from a hotel?

I've been in maybe 100 hotel rooms last 2 years, so far no issues thank god... But just wondering if anyone ever had a problem.

Re: #EncoreFlowMoraleLow

Sure, you can, but then you're giving up free money. Think of it as delayed income... if you make $100,000 per year, you'd be giving up $20,000 in match. In fact the company banks on that, because a surprisingly significant amount of pilots don’t take full advantage. I can only assume they like tos...

RVR C position and orientation

Hi all, I noticed that RVR C sensor out of CYVR is aimed backwards into the approach and is basically a reverse of the RVR A sensor. Is this so that we as pilots can get a good idea of the distance at which we can expect to see the runway threshold from an approach since being able to see elements o...

Re: Alternatives to prescription sunglasses

Hey thanks!

I've decided to just get 90 day contacts and wear cheap sunglasses for now as a stopgap measure. Unfortunately I got thick framed glasses so nothing really wraps around or snaps on.

But yes glasses are ridiculously priced! Perhaps I should start my own company!

Alternatives to prescription sunglasses

Hi all, I lost my prescription sunglasses lately, and I can't afford a new pair. I used my insurance to get a new pair of glasses just before I lost them too :( Anyone have suggestions for affordable "sun blocking solutions" or can share what you use? I do instruct VFR, so not having sunglasses is g...

What is backing CFC's Diploma? https://www.privatetraininginstitutions.gov.bc.ca/ ??? You need to do research on that. On the other hand BCIT has 18,000 full time and 29,000 part time students, I would think their diploma and degree programs is fulling recognized. Probably even with transferable cre...

Re: Should I stay or should I go?

Far far off decision for me, but I've been researching Avianca and south/central America in general. Eva air in Taiwan. Jetstar (Mostly Singapore base, but they have Australia, Japan, Vietnam and Indonesia bases... seems to operate as separate entities... based on 45 min of research). Those are the ...

Coming home after working overseas (ATPL)

Hi all, Lately I've been thinking about living overseas after meeting a Canadian 737 Captain (graduate of UFV!) working for Jetstar (Singapore). I also have a couple of regular working stiff friends who are just returning to Canada to settle. It looked like a good life experience to live in a massiv...

This post has more layers than Inception. Avcanada copying an online article mentioning an Air Canada facebook post that quoted a CBC email. Might be the first time a forum post made me laugh so hard! But yes... I've always felt Air Canada takes the restrained, professional air when it came to nega...
