Re: I hate the radio.

And I have been told on many occasions by the newbies that they had to teach their students to read back everything because they were training airline pilots of the future! As an instructor the same thing applied K.I.S.S. An instructor I flew with told me to read everything back during a simple VFR...

Re: I hate the radio.

It would be a waste because they don't have any. I gave up trying to drill any sense into them. The white shirt with 4 gold bars crowd have taken over the aviation world and God hep us in the future. Anyone who flies in the Fraser Valley is treated to continuous ACTPA but there is one school that t...

Re: June 5th, 9:00pm...

I graduated high school about 4 years ago, and all throughout, learning about Canada's efforts in WWII was always a priority. I still remember learning about D-Day, Vimy Ridge and The Battle of Normandy. I was always interested in history/social studies myself, but many classmates hated it, and coul...

Not wearing a headset inside of a Cessna for all of 30 seconds is loud and annoying, I'm sure that won't be an issue.

I've seen that red Dash 8 around here before, looks pretty good in red actually. Surveillance for the government would be a interesting flying job in my opinion as well.

Re: Dear YKF flight instructors

500 foot circuits are perfectly legal. In fact, they are required when doing circuits in controlled airspace and the ceiling is 1000 AGL. Nowhere in the CARs is an altitude or dimension specified for a circuit. You could do it at 10 feet with the downwind 500 feet laterally spaced from the runway. ...

I would do both at the same time as long as you are able to fly a few days a week, why waste time!

+1 on Air Command for weather, I always had trouble with a few concepts and it cleared them up for me. Plus the workbook is great as well.

Re: A few questions before I write the CPAER tomorrow

Well I wrote it today and there was not even 1 question regarding PPC/PCC's on it, or anything regarding 700 level operations at all. Found that odd.

Passed it, now on to the flight test, thanks everyone!

A few questions before I write the CPAER tomorrow

1. What exactly would a PPC used for instead of a PCC. I can't get my head around the difference between the two. 2. For anyone who has written the exam lately, do you need to know the point of no return or any other formulas. 3. Everyone I know keeps getting a partial on General Knowledge. I can't ...

Re: The Aviation! It hurts!

I seriously think 50% of people flying do not realize that a good radio call is basically saying what you need to say in proper phraseology so its brief, and doesn't take up anyone else's time. Unfortunately, everyone loves just throwing in silly phrases and extra stuff which is unnecessary.

Re: The Aviation! It hurts!

I always find the staff at the FIC/FSS on the phone really helpful and friendly when I file a flight plan? They always give you a quick story of what the weather is doing and update you with Notams, I can't think of a reason to not file one.

Re: Tailwind landings

The problem with taking the 5 kt tailwind today is that tomorrow you'll take 6 or 10 kts, because 5 wasn't that bad. And eventually you'll be that Challenger going into Aspen Colorado with 33 kts up the tail pipe... http://www.avcanada.ca/forums2/viewtopic.php?f=118&t=93785 I love crosswind landing...

Re: Tailwind landings

Ok makes sense, now with CAR 602.96,3.(e): "where practicable, land and take off into the wind unless otherwise authorized by the appropriate air traffic control unit", does this mean if ATC clears you to a runway with a tailwind, and you accept, you are now clear of this regulation?
