Re: CBC coverage- Pilot’s frustrated ATC rant

it was always the stories like the one you mentioned where someone was 95% of the way there, and then shown the door. Event's like those are VERY very rare in reality. There's far more success stories in qualifications that no one hears about. It's the vocal minority that feel the need to stand on ...

Re: CBC coverage- Pilot’s frustrated ATC rant

777 / 330 / 787 SENIOR Captains at Air Canada, that is a very small percentage of Professional Pilots in Canada. Nav Canada should be eliminated for what they have allowed to happen in Canadian Aviation. 400K for a VFR Tower controller is obscene. They're working 8 days on, 1 day off to do that. Pr...

Is that confirmed and from how long ago? Nothing noted in the news which they have always done in the past or even photos which these days is unheard of.

Pretty sure that the media got that one wrong as usual. McChord hasn't had fighters stationed there in probably close to 20 years.

Everyone that I knew that was ever CT'd from the center, the public is safer for it. A year into training isn't much in the big scheme of things when training IFR.

I wonder when Nav will sort there shit out, does anyone know if there are enough recruits in the pipleline to meet demand in a year or two?
That's the big question as there are still a TON of controllers in the system with 30+ years in and can go at any time.

Lineups to get through security and your flight simply leaves without you. The ATC delays are 100% from not having enough people in the system to fill the seats.

They don't claim that they are too busy, they claim they are too short staffed. Those units in the US while also short still have a lot more people on the mics.

Re: CBC coverage- Pilot’s frustrated ATC rant

In your opinion why is there a controller shortage? Just a low salary issue? I think it's from a few things. They never caught up from a hiring freeze in the late 80's, then during covid every student in the system was let go. Many of those were offered to come back at some point afterwards but man...

Re: CBC coverage- Pilot’s frustrated ATC rant

coordinated book offs for personal benefit. So much misinformation. Units are so short that even if no one books off sick there still isn't enough people willing to come in and work the overtime to try and fill every slot because they are tired and already overworked. This is where those delays are...

bring in military terminal controllers to run Vancouver centre and terminal. See how fast the other centres shape up.
Haha, and you thought traffic was moving slowing the way it is now? It would take them a couple years to get up to speed and many of them wouldn't qualify.

Re: "Cleared to land" = Pointless use of words?

When have you experienced those airports issuing multiple landing clearances on the same runway in CAT 1 min weather? Whenever it is IMC. There is no weather requirement with Multiple Landing Clearances as long as the runway isn't contaminated with snow, slush or ice etc. They are only permitted on...

Re: "Cleared to land" = Pointless use of words?

Where have you experienced multiple landing clearances being issued in CAT 1 conditions? PIC has ultimate responsibility when accepting a clearance. If ATC fails to monitor situation due to distraction when multiple clearances have been issued, PIC must ensure separation is maintained prior to land...

Re: "Cleared to land" = Pointless use of words?

ADS-B/C as well as high resolution ground radar has allowed this in VFR conditions to be a perfectly safe maneuver so as to kinimize frequency congestion. This is the only time you'll see this practice. That said, this transfers the decision onto the pilot. Is the runway clear? Yes, well, you're cl...

Re: "Cleared to land" = Pointless use of words?

At the 4 major Canadian airports you can be given a sequence and cleared to land. This was requested by the users (ACA or WJA most likely). It means the runway WILL be clear for you when it comes time that you require it. Tower may still taxi aircraft across in front of your arrival, but the require...

Re: Nav Can Whisky Tango Fox over

I’ve had ground controllers clear me across active runways with traffic on final numerous times which I caught and held short. It's pretty routine and legal to issues a crossing with traffic on final with a landing clearance. Too many variables to think that anything was out of place on that, as th...

Simply put, it is mandated phraseology in our MATS and that is what goes until we are told otherwise. It has been like this for a few decades at least.

Re: Poor service

Why isn’t 13/31 used anymore in YVR? It's closed by notam, so it's not even an option. YVR and the major Operators understand that Rwy13 ops reduces the arrival and departure rate to less than acceptable levels. As for North runway departures, even outside of the noise abatement it was tried for so...
