Apparently YUL began in-person testing for candidate selection?
From what I've heard, yul region is trying to fill an FSS ab-initio course right now. VFR and IFR courses next year.

Just like the one they got late last year, and the retroactive backpay?

Re: ATC Layoffs?

I don’t think any controllers will get laid off, not IFR controllers anyways. Nav Canada offered early retirement to controllers a few months ago and they had to stop because too many were taking it which left the company even shorter staffed than it was before. Also, there are a lot of people stil...

Re: Regional Airline Pilot to IFR Controller, worth the switch?

ATC is not the best job in the world. Yes it is good pay but after doing the job for 5 years it becomes very mundane and boring. If you want to work long hours with very little job satisfaction then ATC is for you... +1 to the bidding out suggestion. There are units that are short and will have you...

Re: YYZ Assessments

If you let recruitment know you're interested in any region, there's a chance you could be offered a spot elsewhere in the country.

That said, YZ region is very short right now so if you are going to get in, it will probably be that region.

Re: Differences between the referral process and normal application process

If you know someone who can/will refer you, that is probably your best bet. Consider that the employee referral program is new, and they are interested in accumulating statistics for whether it's more, or less, successful than the previous program. Due to this, it's likely they'll be taking most (or...

Re: Etiquette with gift to OJI upon checkout

I didn't get my OJI a "checkout gift" but did give him a bottle of scotch at the following Christmas. He's the best instructor/teacher I've had in anything I've done and I didn't think twice about showing appreciation for his ability and effort as an OJI. Get your OJI a gift if you want to, don't be...

Re: Toronto to Niagara in 15 minutes

Can anyone out there do some back of the napkin math on something like this? I see $160 return for 8 people. So a full plane is $1280 total revenue. A round trip is being called 30 minutes, but I'm guessing you'd likely experience delays in and out of the Island (I mean, Porter does OWN the place)....

Yeah hopefully... I still have a lot to get through I'm on the VFR course in YYZ All I can say is, watch out for GKNC in the simulator (he never seems to catch his call sign). . I never had any issue with GKNC, but FPOV caused me some trouble one of the sim evals when he cut in, in front ...

Re: ITA Questions, and hopefully a little positivity.

I was wondering if there are anymore review questions for the ITA. It seems the block quizes are shorter with every new block. I don't think there are enough review questions to represent the material. Not only are there very few review questions for the amount of material that the ITA contains, bu...

You are correct, all medevac flights are priority. Medevac = hospital, though medevac is the correct phraseology.

Re: ITA Study Material Vs. Exam

IIRC it was very straightforward, no trick questions or convoluted wording. Know the ITA inside out, to the point where if you are being quizzed on the practice questions you know the answer 4 words into the question, and you will be fine. On my course I think pretty well everyone had 90% or so on t...

Re: When to get the medical?

When I spoke to the HR person from Nav Can it was explained to me that a CAT1 is sufficient so long as it is valid, but it does not revert to a CAT2 when it expires. So basically a CAT2 buys you two years and a CAT1 only gets you one. Not quite correct...Validity periods are based on what you're us...

Re: Ontario airport adventures discussion.

I highly recommend Pelee Island in the summer. Stay at least 24 hrs, there are a bunch of great bed and breakfast operations, the owners of which will usually pick you up from and drive you to the airport. Same latitude as Northern Cali, the weather is great, the wine is better and the people are ve...

Re: Tips for the VFR/IFR ITA Exam

If you can get your hands on From The Ground Up, that will be your best bet for getting a head start on the ITA. FTGU is essentially the basic bible for flight training, and can be found at any flight shop (online or at an airport). From what I remember, roughly 70% of the ITA package is material di...
