Re: Ready To Strike

We only get strike pay if we're on strike for more than 14 days. For the first 14 days, we get nothing. I'm ready either way. Just know for budgeting purposes that if we're on strike for less than 2 weeks, it will be entirely without income.

Maybe the best thing to do is to have a procedure at each station where two separate ground workers check that the door is properly latched.... Year 1 A220 FO pay at Delta is $115/hr now. So I don't actually think 130k CAD is a stretch for us. That's the market we're in now.

A very close friend of mine is an Anesthesiologist. He was telling me that after he finished med school, and was being trained for his specialty in anesthesiology, the instructors regularly drew comparisons to airline pilots, and our CRM/SOP adherence. I would actually say on a professional level, w...

We're worth what the labour market demands. No different than fuel, airport slot prices, etc. Currently that market demands United wages. The Us market demands that. The Canadian doesn’t. If you can get paid United wages why aren’t you working for them? You know the answer. There are Canadian pilot...

Declared an emergency for being short 75 lbs of fuel….????? Imagine if they hadn’t declared an emergency, and ATC made them go around. It would get bad very quickly. While declaring an emergency may seem silly for 75 lbs of fuel, you are making sure it stays at only 75 lbs, and, it gives ATC the po...

Another point I would like to make is that I don't believe our CEO's at airlines in Canada are working for a discount. I'm fairly certain they are getting compensation equal to their American counterparts.

Re: Mis-set Cruise power

Yes. When parking the airplane, you put the condition levers to "start feather" before shutting the engines down, as well as when starting the engines. When in flight, the props would self destruct under such high torque loads, so the airplane won't allow the props to actually go into feather, at le...

Re: Mis-set Cruise power

Some people here are almost on the right track. There is a system on the Q400 where if both condition levers are brought below the 850 RPM (cruise) gate, the PEC's (propeller electronic control) will automatically put the props into an overspeed condition. This is to prevent the props from self-dest...

Re: American Airlines, one of the world’s largest airlines, has announced plans to pay its pilots up to $590,000 per yea

How are airlines taxed vs those in Canada though? How are we the same when 50% of my salary evaporates when I receive it? I’m not buying that argument. Corporate taxes are obviously very different from personal taxes. You can look at the financials for any of the publicly traded airlines in Canada ...

Both - the 300,000 is the increase for FO's. American is matching the new Delta deal with a 40% raise.... So By year 4, narrow body captain tops at $475,000, wide body captain $590,000 annually. https://twitter.com/cbs11doug/status/1633290362566344704/photo/1 No point comparing us to the US. We fly...

My last pay cheque was $1120. That was with no unusual deductions. Year 1 FO on reserve. I am doing the 10% share purchase plan. Hardly flew at all in February. But still.....$1120. Not sure that constitutes being one of the best compensated pilots in Canada.

Lets look at a few things, they were essentially over Enderby leveling off at 240 when the trouble started. At the end of the day, the QRH says "land at nearest suitable airport" if I remember correctly. YLW is more than suitable, and as others have said, it is not a tight valley. The conditions were VFR, with a bit of wind. A 9000' runway with VFR weather conditions is more than suitable enough for me, e...

It’s been a while since I’ve flown a visual departure, aren’t you supposed to climb straight ahead to 500 before making a turn enroute? A steep turn at 45’ would’ve been investigated if a CADORS was issued, That's a requirement in uncontrolled airports: 500 ft if staying in circuit, 1000ft before p...

After all the hiring that transpired between 2017-2020, can a pilot hired aged 30-35 expect to see a comfortable widebody position with decent a seniority during their career? What about narrowbody? Is it reasonable to anticipate significant fleet growth over the next 30 years — enough to render th...
