Re: Switching to flying in the US

Just go fly at Piedmont airlines. And in 4-6 years you’ll be at American Airlines. No degree required. The sooner you get in the better.

Re: Where to apply for jobs for Airbus 320?

He/she has no clue what a pilot is. I don't see how wanting to fly big jets makes me not a pilot. If 10 years ago all airliners were flown by computers, and the only pilot jobs left over were bush flying, then at least half of you wouldn't be on this forum because you wouldve chose a different care...

Re: A Good Read.

It isn't hard to see that there is a pilot pay shortage. Not a pilot shortage. You can make more at a regional airline in the USA than a major in Canada. 2nd year pay at Air Canada is $57/hour. 70 hour reserve guarantee. Or $3990/month CDN American Airlines is $130/hour with a reserve of 76 hours or...

Re: Canadian Jetlines five Boeing 737 MAX 7's

Well i am a US RJ captain (10 year). Last year I made $150,000CDN.

I would need to make at least that to fly a 737. Especially in Canada. It's a lot cheaper to live in the USA.
Time for these companies to "Show me the money!".

Re: Eastern Airlines is coming back

I had a 64.5 year old jump seater the other day. He is living in South Florida. And is an investor with the new Eastern. Where they have an advantage is that they are being run by retired and almost retired airline pilots. With good connections with the FAA. I think they are going to have an easy ti...

Re: Employee Standby Travel Line

My experience was kinda long so here is the short version. Got to YYZ from the states. Went through customs/immigration and got my bag. 11:30am est. Got up to the ticket counter for A/C, the kiosk wouldn't work with my confirmation code. Waited in line for 30 min and got to a live person. Checked 2 ...

Re: Employee Standby Travel Line

Been trying for two days to list for a flight. Keep getting a busy signal. So i tried the normal Air Canada number and after 1.5 hours of being put on hold the person told me that i need to call the employee line. I told them my story and didn't get anywhere. I purchased a ZED fare for my wife and o...

If your job does not require a degree it will not be considered a profession.

At least this is what NAFTA believes.

Re: Would you do it if you could start over?

Flew all over Canada and the USA. From a C-150 to CRJ's. Best flying i ever did was a DHC-2 on the wet coast. Every day i am going through security making that 1 mile walk to my gate so i can take 70 people to some small town 5 times a day, makes me think of the old DHC-2 days. Less money, but a lot...

Re: Sunwing/Canjet fleet and foreign pilots winter 2012-2013

if the CTA agrees with Gilles, then they must revoke Sunwing’s license to operate in Canada. This is how Gilles tries to help Canadian pilots. He tries to shut Sunwing Airlines down and prevent it from operating, putting everyone out of work. What a nice guy. Regardless of the outcome, if sunwing o...

I Never flew for pinnacle but have friends there that do. Starting wage for a crj f/o is around $22,000/year. Coupled with poor hotels and schedules its anyone's guess how they attract new pilots. Republic is offering $5000 to start now be ause of the trouble they are having hiring. Most regionals i...

I think all students should find a cheap hotel in some industrial park and stay there for at least a month. Without a car. Eating only what you can carry or walking distance to the hotel. THen make a schedule that has you up late for 4 days then early for 4 days. Up late then early. Find some gay/ge...

I don't think my job is going anywhere but I have to work my butt off to make $7000/month.
80-100 legs a month. Don't care so much for direct entry captain as much as liking my job.

Opportunities for a RJ pilot.

Wondering what the next step would be. Currently flying a CRJ for an American regional. Have around 7500tt 2500 as captain. Would like to move up to a larger airplane and will move. Have CDN/euro passports and green card. Hold both cdn and FAA ratings. Most recruiting companies want me to move overs...

Well i have 7000hrs. 5500 turbine, 3000 PIC turbine and i can't get a call either. I'm happy flying a regional jet but would like to stop the 5-7 legs days.

Well I have over 7000 hrs and about 2500 a's captain on a crj. No call no pfo letter. Nothing. Never got anything. I guess I'll keep trying. Soon it won't make economic sense to make the jump. Unless pay rates dramatically improve.

Float rating wasn't that difficult for me. The instructor was great and flying on the west coast is fantastic. Just a great flying experience. My CFI was a test in patience. Learning what the feds want you to learn. That was tough. My first airline flying a turbo prop the ground school was really ha...
