Re: Bearskin Crash — FEB 25, 2020 — Dryden, ON
That wouldn't explain the lack of brakes though. Realistically the nosewheel steering system and brake system is completely separate, although stranger things have happened. Then again, just the brakes wouldn't be enough to overwrite a faulty nose wheel steering, which might give the illusion of no...

Re: New North Star Basler Accident (Number 3)
I think the bottom line from what I have heard on the thread is that it may not be wise to circle a heavy turbine DC-3 in significant icing. Therefore, come up with an alternate plan. If a straight-in approach can't be safely done, divert to an alternate. Okay. I'll quote. The cielings were low. So...

This didn't stall at 300 feet (where'd that idea come from?) it was flown into the ground.goingnowherefast wrote: ↑Fri Feb 28, 2020 6:47 pm Stall the plane at 300', does that count as a CFIT or loss of control?

While Pelmet sometimes likes to make things more complicated than they are, hi comment about the legal way not always being the best (or words to that end, I don't do quotes) are bang on.
Take this for what it's worth:
Legal is NOT always safe.
Safe is NOT always legal.

Re: New North Star Basler Accident (Number 3)
could be toast but the ID plate alone they could resurrect it. and really at over 7 million canadian you say it's not worth it if basler were to buy the salvage -- I wonder -- wx was a factor but not the cause. “Weather was a factor” is nothing but a cheap excuse. They new the weather when they too...

Salvage?
It's "TOAST" kids. The work involved would far outweigh the cost of another airframe. Perhaps some parts. Maybe.
Now everybody take a deep breath and STOP PUSHING WEATHER!!!!!

Best first post ever.
Used to deal with the “get er done” mindset for years. Toss all the technical horse around all you want...bottom line? Yup, you hit it.

Re: New North Star Basler Accident
The other one was surface contamination picked up before takeoff. That was never confirmed, NTSB came up with that because they could not explain it. No proof of contamination was found. I still believe there was another cause. The Basler conversion has some ugly characteristics. It will carry a sh...

I remember it as if it were yesterday. Everyone involved should serve jail time. I know Caravans. I know what they're like in ice.

Re: New North Star Basler Accident
If they weren't aligned with the runway maybe airframe icing and loss of control were a factor again. Nope. Just hit the ground while wandering around trying to orientate themselves. Tops weren't high, and an RB67 can easily handle inflight ice. The other one was surface contamination picked up bef...

Is it just me, or do the ads that pop up between every post make this site almost unusable?
Flew over the sight yesterday. About 300 meters south of the threshold for 08? Headed 80 or so degrees to the south. Nowhere near lined up. Freight can wait.

AC was seen circling overhead. Guy I talked to said “it was really low, and misty” verbatim. Pushing weather seems to be the inescapable truth on this one.

Freight is great. Can always go tmrw. Been involved with ops I wouldn't touch today. DC3s on skis. Some very nasty WX. Inadequately maintained equipment. No GPS. Not many NDBs. Never saw 3 prangs in that time period. Something is very wrong here. It's 2019. Pushing not required. Great machines. Expe...
