Re: Pilots warned to stay alert for Toronto incursion risks
When I brief an approach to 24L I include the planned exit point as well as make a verbal note to the captain that we will plan to hold short of 24R.

Re: noise cancelling headset; what to buy?
I would highly recommend the Bose A20. Extremely comfortable and well worth the investment. This December will be 5 years with them. Over the summer I adjusted my seat in the cockpit which inadvertently bent the microphone jack (cord was caught in my seat). Threshold Aviation referred me to Brant Ae...

Re: Per Diems
I never understood this argument. Yes, I don't budget my month to month expenses counting on my per diem, but when you can go out on a 4 day pairing, earn $335 per diem, and only spend $40 of it, how can you deny the extra money that you will have available to throw down onto a mortgage / save for a...

Re: Jazz Experience
Last year I got a call for an interview with about 1250 TT and 300 Multi. ATPLs written. I do think they want some two crew time as well. I know they haven't even given interviews to some friends with 1500+ TT and ATPLs written, with time on the PC12, which is a bit of a bummer and thus they have pa...

Food prep / meals / snacks on the road
Always looking for new ideas and tips on what people like to bring with them when heading out for a few days of work. I quite enjoy being in the kitchen at home so when I am gone for a few days at a time I miss the luxury of a full kitchen + stocked fridge. Things I frequently pack: -a few frozen tu...

Agree that the road from Sault to Thunder bay is great. The Bushplane Museum in SSM is cool and you gotta stop to see the pictographs in Lake Superior Provincial Park!

Going to be all done ground school by the end of the month and will be looking for a spot to live in the GTA (YYZ based). It's in town. If you call the restaurant (Herbert Fisheries) they will come and pick you up. It is walkable, though.Ahmaxpower wrote:Do they have Fish and chips at the airport in Killarney? or is it in town?

Re: Getting better at flying...without flying?
You mentioned speed being a problem a couple times. When you set yourself up on base, are you getting the aircraft properly trimmed out? This will play a huge part in managing the aircraft for the rest of the approach, and the familiarity of a procedure will allow you to make slight changed from one...

Re: How sick is TOO sick to fly?
I simulate myself in the worst possible scenario, and then ask, would I be able to perform at my highest level, make good decisions, and fly the airplane to my fullest extent?
If it's a no then I stay on the ground.
Not getting your co workers sick is also something to keep in mind.

Gore Bay on Manitoulin Island is a good little airport with great service. Robbie is the operator, and there are some B&B's located in the town which is a short drive.

The Private Pilot Answer Guide is definitely the best bang for your buck (other than the website as mentioned - which is a great resource too). I did use Sharper Edge books throughout my training, but found they got progressively less helpful. It seemed a lot of the information was just copied and p...
