The writer's a little over the top all right with the vernacular. Is there any chance that sunglasses of any type (polarized or not) could help? Also, isn't it about time that the ubiquitous stinking cameras and surveillance devices used in airport terminals could actually be used for something wort...

Re: Hawkair recession
I am interested if anyone out there has some anecdotal tales about other 705 (mostly am thinking domestic) operators in Canada that are feeling the crunch of this recession/depression?

Hawkair recession
Word is that Hawkair is closing it's yyd base, probably for good this time :( . Big pilot and related employee shuffle along with numerous lay-offs. I'm curious as to just how big the down turn is in Canadian Aviation this year? We are in recession without a doubt, HA problems are also related to th...

There was nothing reported to do with fire, either prior to or after the aircraft (or parts thereof) impacted the ground.

Re: Overdue Cargo Airplane Bound for CYXS
Most of the time that run "bulks out" in the morning on its way up, so there isn't anywhere for the cargo to shift. They use good cargo nets, and the planes are maintained well. DG is rare and when it is on board it's usually small amount's of dry ice keeping "medical stuff" cool. I agree, I used t...

Alaska Airlines Incident
Apparently, a rampy with Menzies Aviation fell asleep in the cargo hold on a flight out of SeaTac - this is just too absurd. Couldn't he have just gone back to sleep and possibly, just possibly, the whole thing would not have become a major incident?

Looks like forecast icing and sw winds aloft on their route with freezing levels down around 3000'.

Re: instrument rating
I think he's asking at what point he's considered not to have held an IR in the previous 24 months and so would have to sit the INRAT again. I bet you it says something like "to 2014 FEB 01" so it expired 1 Feb 2014, so you'd have to sit the INRAT if you haven't passed a check ride by 31 January 20...

instrument rating
Hi guys:
I am sure this subject has been covered here, but would anyone know the final expiry on an instrument rating. For instance, mine states valid to Feb '14 - I am presuming it would fully expire March of 2016, 2 years after the last valid month/year - does this sound right? Thx

AC has it's share of horseshoes. I recall an AC RJ in CYFC that ended up a couple thousand feet off the runway c/L wrapped around a tree - no fatalities.MrWings wrote:As has been said, a miracle no one was killed. This is not a shrug your shoulders oh well type incident.

Re: Air Canada Accident in YHZ
They had supposedly circled for a while and then found a "window" to land instead of diverting to moncton. The plane caught the powerline coming in so i guess they were too low and then bounced, shed parts and slid on its belly. Luckily there were no majour injuries but confidence in air travel is ...

Re: Germanwings A320 Plane Crashes in Southern France
I was under the impression that the Colgan Air disaster in '09 was going to to be a big wake up call regarding pilot proficiency, or lack thereof, and poor pay and work conditions, especially with low cost carriers. Apparently, I was mistaken.. You' d think but not enough people were killed and not...

Re: Germanwings A320 Plane Crashes in Southern France
As the media focuses on the mental health of this pilot maybe it's time they were educated on the continued degradation of the compensation, benefits, and overall working conditions of airline pilots, particularly with the low cost carriers around the world. The ones that have wannabes pay for type...

I'm not implying the report isn't true, but I wouldn't support the quick conclusion without some tangible evidence. Let me do that for you then. THE REPORT ISN'T TRUE. Good calls, particularly re 18,000'. There is a rush to judgement going on, I don't buy it. BUT, the msm has spoken, and no one is ...
